IB TWS warns you by default if you exit with an open position. That can be turned on/off under Configure / Exit / Warn on exit with position. I'm not sure what you are referring to in your question related to just pending orders though. I have not seen that in TWS before.

NYMEX is normally pretty good but there was an outage for about 20 minutes just as prices spiked up and started to fall back down around 9:15 EST. I had to hedge on ICE until it came back up. Oh well, nice start to the week, thanks NYMEX.

That is not exactly true. The professional status depends on whether you hold a securities license, are an investment advisor or work for a financial institution. Just having an LLC or Corp for trading purposes by itself does not qualify you as a "professional".
