Best Country for Trading (Tax efficiency)

For all the small US Citizen traders dreaming of trading their $5k futures account into millions, isn't trading futures inside an IRA the perfect solution? If you have positive expectancy and a 10-year plan, the difference paying no tax makes could be huge.

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

Robert, I hope all is going well. I just wanted to make sure that I had a chance to wish you a happy Hanukkah. May the festival of lights bring joy to you and your whole Mishpokhe! Shalom, Caementarius

Non-directional strategies for 11-12% yearly return

Well, if you want a steady 11% per year return and you realize that you are taking on some large hidden risks in return for nice and steady looking returns, you could: 1. Sell calls and puts outside the market just far enough to get a 0.873459% return each month from the premiums. 2. Pray...

Grinding it out, day after day

Last I heard was Costa Rica and then to a spiritual retreat in the islands. Came across this picture of him from his private blog before he took it down. Who knows where he might be by now? :D

    Do Coincidences Have Meaning?

Regarding the role of luck, how to be a Paul Tudor Jones, etc - this video came to mind: http://www.ted.com/talks/alain_de_botton_a_kinder_gentler_philosophy_of_success.html On the one hand, I feel that we all create our own success. However, chance always plays some role and the video gave...

    Successful poker player

One thing that is similar between poker and trading is the continuous release of information (cards played, trades made/market info) and continuous decision-making. In trading, it's easy for me to get caught thinking in terms of only entry, target, and stop. Continously evaluating targets...

Please Help Me Build 12 Monitor System

+1 Been buying Dell for an IT dept at a large company for about 9 years. Aside from a problem with bad capacitors about 4 years ago (for which they replaced mobos on 12 systems), I haven't had problems. The business-class hardware that they routinely sell 3-year warranties on (optiplex...

    Victor¡¡Sperandeo

Agree. His book title sounded hokey so I didn't read it for a long time - and I didn't think "Trader Vic" sounded like an intellect. However, he really does get into a lot of good essential stuff including psychology. Trading fantasy can be entwined in the need for "vindictive triumph" --...

    Interactive Brokers, generating trading stats

Hello, I wanted to see if anyone had a tool for calculating detailed trading statistics - like you might see in a NinjaTrader backtest, using trade confirmation reports data from IB. Would need to filter out specific contracts (i.e. just report on ES trades). I am going to take my last 3...

    Annual Returns for Prop Traders?

Don - Do you have any numbers on what percentage of your traders who have been with you for 5+ years are net positive?

    Annual Returns for Prop Traders?

There were some court documents after Tuco that showed returns for their traders. You might find them linked on this site or via google. Felt kind of dirty looking at what I'm sure is normally very private data. It was pretty insightful data but only for that year I think. Mostly losing...

Anyone using ACTIV? (tick level data)

My experience with really thick UDP data feeds like used at Genesis (is that Activ?) was to have a multithreaded parsing approach where each port had a separate thread, kept a queue of messages, and updated shared mem for symbols of interest. This was the only way I could get thousands of data...

IB - Friends & Family, Advisor Accounts

I'm also interested in the mechanics of PDT with accounts under 25k that are linked to friends and family. A few additional questions: - Is 15 the max for a non-registered advisor in Pennsylvania or is it a lower number? - If I trade 100 shares of stock and have 11 accounts linked, how...

    AlgoDeal

elefevre - Any updates on whether this is the final chosen direction? I am guessing that the crowd didn't show up in the numbers/power needed to make it worth it. If you're going for those with track records, there's not a lot to differentiate algodeal from any number of shops out there. I...

    Patak Trading

Having gone through a couple combines, I agree with the generally positive comments. I think it's a good system if you are inexperienced or struggling and you don't want to lose a bunch of money. A common theme is that the key is to survive so that you can make the learning curve. Well, you...

Why dont Americans come to Europe to trade

My only experience in Europe is staynig in hotels. Based on that experience, I frequently paid like $250+USD/night for some really crappy rooms. Water stains on walls, molding carpet in corner of room, no AC, etc. It's just a different culture when it comes to what a reasonable accomodation is.

Half of adults in the US could be obese by 2030 - Los Angeles Times

What I'm saying is paying $57 for 57 miles is overpaying by 570,000% if you look at what a kwh costs, how many calories are in a kwh, and how many calories are in a mile of pedaling. It seems like all that sweat/effort would be worth more $ but it's not.

Half of adults in the US could be obese by 2030 - Los Angeles Times

I did some calculations on the back of a burger wrapper. You'd burn 5700 kcalories to make 1 penny. 5700 kcalories is a heck of a workout. That could be running 57 miles for a penny assuming 100 kcal per mile.

    Need Advice - Pulsar Capital

I think there is something to be said for this kind of structure at Topsteptrader.com and pulsarcap. One of the best ways to know if you should be trading with real money, your own or someone else's, is evaluating performance. When we trade on our own, there are many opportunities for self...
