    CNBC - Cramer's Mad Money

Has anyone tracked the action alert portfolio performance - I assume since it is a real $ account then tracking the account level should be easy? Is it any good? Has anyone tried to follow his picks closely to the letter? Does your performance match the claimed performance of the action...

    new career in mutual funds

    - slightly off topic when did options market-making start to die? - most people these days think about getting into a hedge fund rather than mutual funds - why not go for a starting position in trading execution (equity derivatives, fixed income given your previous experience) at a hedge fund?

    Credit Default Swaps

good point, and the equity/corporate debt markets are linked in this way however, it is not a perfect link/arbitrage by any means - eg GM last week when the stock went up on Kerkorian's bid and the bonds went down the CDS market developed out of a need of banks to directly hedge credit risk

TT sues Refco for patent infringement

hmm... never traded futures electronically before, but lots of stocks... that price ladder looks confusing. I'll take my old Watcher L2 keyboard driven entry system any day. Anyone traded futures on both price ladder and L2 style? Any comments on pros/cons of each?

    Credit Default Swaps

this is the CDX Hvol NA series 3 (5-year) one of the biggest indices for higher volatility investment grade credit spreads (over LIBOR, not treasuries) 2004 December was pretty much multi-year tight levels for credit spreads GM & F blowing out recently is the catalyst for the increase

TT sues Refco for patent infringement

OK, so is the "price ladder" so awesome that everyone wants to use it? Are there successful futures traders out there using something *other* than TT's "price ladder"? (I suspect yes, as well as unsuccessful traders who do use the price ladder) Therefore, why can't everyone who wants to...

    Credit Default Swaps

I work at a bank and my group uses CDS all the time. I have Bloomberg & Mark-It Partners (institutional information).

TT sues Refco for patent infringement

I have been following this TT thing a bit but must confess, never used any related software so I can't figure out what their problem is. Can someone that uses the "special TT sauce" post a screenshot that would identify exactly what TT is claiming is theirs (via patent)? I would be most...

    Credit Default Swaps

I think the nature of the CDS market is such that the futures will lead the CDS, rather than the other way around. At the very least, it would be simultaneous. Example, worries about economic weakness will weigh on stocks and will increase CDS spreads. I don't think the lead/lag is...

Prop Blowups, how common are they?

brings to mind the old expression "tis better to have loved & lost, than never loved at all" to adapt to trading: "tis better to have made X million and lost it, than never to have made X million at all" true or false? discuss

    Is trading sexualy inviting...

My wife has always made an effort to understand the financial world even though it's not her "thing". I really appreciate that. Personally, were I single I would probably think it very cool if the woman was a trader. However, I know of one ex-couple where the woman (a good friend & good...

Don's openings and more for 2005

But that is speculative trading, and while I agree there is more opportunity, it is hard to teach somebody to do it. Just ask all the hedge funds fighting to get some alpha these days...

IPE going all electronic - does anybody care?

thanks - one thing I have wondered about is how big an account would be needed to get ICE access (eg a hedge fund)... $5 million? $10 million? Because with the OTC clearing, that kind of takes care of credit issues doesn't it?

IPE going all electronic - does anybody care?

sounds like you guys are really plugged in to what happens in the OTC energy markets... but maybe you can enlighten me (who is less familiar)... is the idea that ICE/IPE could hurt NYMEX the most, not in crude, but in natural gas? Is this because ICE already has part of the OTC flow, but...

    Pictures of your trading stations

Thought I would post my setup... To prevent people from saying "that's not real, you're not really using that" (as unfortunately happened to MAESTRO) I have posted a picture of myself in front of the machine, discussing some trading related matter with a colleague. You may wonder why there...

    Confused about IV

*if* you could get a fill the moment the trading range was violated, then the high IV in the options could be "arbitraged" in a sense however, I think the high IV in the options means the market thinks the underlying will gap, thus making it difficult to trade the underlying in the direction...

IB & Intl Petroleum Exchange (IPE)

Wondering if someone from IB can answer this... the IPE now trades their petroleum products (eg Brent Crude Oil) during business hours electronically. Volume is picking up in their electronic version versus open-outcry though it is still the minority. Does IB have plans to carry this product?

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

I've made my way through most of this thread... congrats to all the folks who have made it work successfully. You must actually find it unfortunate that pair trading has become a fad, because the more exposure, the less profit opportunity as the market becomes more efficient. My thinking on...
