The top players often play this kind of solid style, avoiding much risk while trying to capitalize on their opponents' missteps. Many times this will end up as drawn games.
One thing that separates Carlsen apart from the other elites is his ability to win a fair number of these games. I think...
I don't know who will be doing the strangling. Carlsen isn't an aggressive, swashbuckling player himself. He likes to play for small, riskless advantages and constrict his opponents. But he admits that sometimes he underestimates his opponents' positions and the potential for...
Based on their ratings, recent performance, and head-to-head score, Karjakin will have his work cut out for him. But this is a match, and preparations (especially opening preparations) can play a significant role. Looking forward to it!
I had a chance (and foolishly declined) to play Kasparov at his prime in a five-game clock simul. Against Kasparov then or Carlsen now, I would play a solid opening like a Caro-Kann, and see how he would crack it. You could also try to play something slow and unorthodox, as long as you don't...
That was too easy for Carlsen. Why give him white for all the games? That is typical for a simul, but given the strength of his opponents, it probably would have been better alternating (black/white, not all white or black).
USA wins Gold! Ukraine gets Silver, and Russia gets Bronze. They all won in the last round, but US beat Ukraine on tiebreaks.
On the women side, China wins Gold, Poland gets Silver, and Ukraine gets Bronze.
I don't think so. Both US and Ukraine must lose in the last round before Russia has a chance to win on tie-breaks, and this scenario is unlikely.
Between US and Ukraine, I have heard that US has enough tiebreak advantage that all they have to do is win against Canada, but I'm not sure of this.
It's down to the wire - a two horse race for gold between USA and Ukraine.
Final round pairings:
USA - Canada (!) I didn't realize Bareev was playing for Canada.
Ukraine - Slovenia
The result was somewhat expected. I actually gave the edge to Russia because of the big ratings difference on the fourth board - Grischuk being there!
The real US-Russia surprise was on the women's side. Russia has a huge ratings advantage, but the US team beat them, thanks to a blunder by...
I enjoyed being on a chess team way back when. It gave a sense of camaraderie in an otherwise, individual competition.
Or we could have a bughouse tournament, switching partners around. It was fun playing against Dlugy in that!
Well, US adopted (lured) two powerful players since the last Olympiad. Their top three players are currently in the top ten of FIDE's ratings list. That's a strong lineup. Go US!
When I put on a simulated position, it shows the margin requirement as such. Again, I have portfolio margin, and it looks at +/- % distance from current price to determine margin requirement.
With reg-t in ToS, I am not sure what the margin requirement is. You can call them - their customer...
On the other hand, with later stocks you have some more guide as to what to expect. I use this in conjunction with charts and previous earnings/vol history.
But I also trade leading stocks as well.
