Now job seekers has to pay appication and background check fees

Employers are probably so flooded with applications that they do this stuff just to thin the herd a little bit. When you're filling out a lengthy application, think about how it's keeping away some applicants who really shouldn't be bothering because they aren't qualified. Makes your...

    Unemployment Benefits Aren't Stimulus

As far as the unemployment rate is concerned, it doesn't matter if benefits incentivize unemployment. In this weak job market, the positions that are open are going to get filled by somebody whether they are being optimally motivated or not.

    Fed Economist: Bloggers are Stupid

Economics having such a strong element of mass psychology, I think it can be argued that you have to be a little bit elitist to understand it. You have to have a large enough ego to place yourself above it and outside of it. If you're just a regular guy, then you're just another participant in...

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

That is really dumb the more I think about it. Those "full time job hunters" applying for things they aren't qualified for are part of the problem too. They're making it more expensive for companies to hire people because they need HR to spend hours going through stacks of worthless resumes...

Google Says Mobile App Stores Have No Future

I suppose eventually every device will permanently be connected to the web, but I think it could take a lot longer than Google expects.

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

Mostly I was learning new programming languages. And I landed a job related to that. It wasn't deceptive at all, IMO. But I've been reading about the unemployed some more and it sounds like a lot of them are making the mistake of spending 8+ hours a day working on their job search. That...

    The 99ers...long term unemployed

LMAO! Are you serious? I'm pretty sure that had a lot more to do with FREE GOLD just sitting around waiting for people to grab it than the American spirit. No, it's not there anymore.

Disturbing Job Ads: 'The Unemployed Will Not Be Considered'

I was *practically* unemployed recently. But I played it off as being a student/self-employed. I had quit my job, spent some personal time self-teaching myself some new skills and I did get one brief freelance job during that time. I was honest about it on my resume and in interviews, and I...

Here is why the US needs a NEW government!

Well I don't think lower class Democrats are really big on having all these overseas military bases anyway, but then I think of how many lower class Republicans there are voting and your logic begins to make sense... A lot of things make more sense when you look at them in a non-partisan way...

Here is why the US needs a NEW government!

The people keep voting for congressmen that approve this kind of spending, so I don't see how a new government would be any better. Unless you're talking about a non-democratic government. But that's not where I'm going... I guess my point is it makes more sense to direct your anger at the...

Masses expect inflation, masses are always wrong = deflation coming?

My take on the masses: they want money. That's all they want. They are tired of not having money. If they get it, they will hang on to it. They will not spend it. That's deflationary. What they expect is of secondary importance.

How is it possible to print money like hell and cause no inflation

It's a lack of "velocity", the amount of money that changes hands per unit time. I'm sure somebody can link to a chart that shows this. My fear is that velocity and inflation will pick up like crazy just when the economy starts to recover.

Innovation is the only way out!

Meh... It's just chicken, cheese and bacon. I think making the chicken look like a bun gives it some kind of extra psychological wow factor. But it's still just two pieces of chicken. Now that bacon cheeseburger that has glazed donuts for buns, that's wild. I would try one.

explanation of fiscal schools of thought and definitions of delfation

What always strikes me about this recession is how the public almost universally assumes it is inflationary. It occurs to me this belief actually has a beneficial effect, one that buffers deflation. If one assumes prices will be higher in the future, then there is an incentive to buy goods and...

If you apply to 759 jobs and get 0 is it you or the jobmarket?

That might sound great, but maybe that just means there are more recruiters competing for each job. And maybe those recruiters are looking at an unprcedented number of candidates for each job. Say there are 10 recruiters for each job, and each one looking at 100 candidates. Your odds of...

60% of bankruptcies caused by medical bills

Oh, of course. Seems to me that's a large portion of the problem right there. It should just be illegal to require medical history. I suppose initially that would make it more expensive, but it would have huge efficiency benefits. Just think of all the paperwork that would be completely...

60% of bankruptcies caused by medical bills

I've been very healthy, so I don't know much about health insurance. How the heck are the insurance companies permitted to share the patients private information with each other? Seems like a gross violation of privacy. And anti-competitive.

Have you ever blown up your trading account?

Don't really fit into any of the categories. Made a profit trading regularly, never had a really big loss, but eventually I came to realize I had just been lucky, so I quit.

The Impact of Wal-Mart Supercenters on Body Mass Index and Obesity

There is a really amazing negative vibe to it. Hard to describe... almost like walking into Jonestown while they're drinking the KoolAid. "All these people are demented and doomed. And I'm weirdly tempted to join them."

The Impact of Wal-Mart Supercenters on Body Mass Index and Obesity

The real fat ones really should just be rounded up and put into concentration camps where they can be forcibly starved down to a socially acceptable size. What good are civil rights if you have no self control? Lay off the twinkies, Bubba.
