    my rimm synthetic call

I'm paper-trading a simple 90P/100C strangle on tonight's RIMM earnings, for what that's worth for the earnings discussion here. Never done one of them before.

    CNBC shows its colors

CNBC Cheerleading is back --- at the gym they had their damn orange bar at the top proclaiming "Dow is XXX above record close!!" Well, zippie-dee-doo-dah. I'm glad I gave up watching it last month......don't need the cheerleading at all.

    CNBC shows its colors

Okay, now it's evident (if you didnt know) how slow CNBC is. As an experiment this morning -- New home sales report released at 1000. Yet CNBC went to commercial, then came back for about 30-45 seconds to market musings about fundamentals before flashing the numbers and "breaking" the news...

    CNBC vs. Bloomberg

The new format isn't bad, and I do like the updated graphics as the old ones were a bit dated....but as I said -- there's NO TICKER! Still, they are far more "realtime" in their news reporting and coverage of key numbers than CNBC

    CNBC vs. Bloomberg

Two things I hate about the New Bloomberg TV: a) no ticker. How can you be a financial news channel and NOT have a ticker? b) their morning call show will start an interview, ask ONE question, then quickly stop (or cut him off) and go to break. I know it's a tease, obviously, but it gets...

    CNBC shows its colors

What's funny is they run the foreign exchange indices in the morning up at the top of the screen. Fine. They display "Shangai Composite 1245677.023 ^ 435.124" in the little rotating box --- translation, they use something like 2-point fontsize and even if you're nose-to-screen you can't...

    CNBC shows its colors

How the bloody hell does CNBC think they're being useful in showing the House Banking Committee hearings today if they continue to overlay the spoken testimony and dialogue of folks in the hearing with their f--cking World of Warcraft sprinkle noises as they continually update the market...

Fat fingers-Keystroke errors: How to deal with it...

Well said -- I accidentally hit 'buy' instead of 'sell' on an ER2 contract a few weeks ago because I was in such a damn hurry, uncaffinated, and still half-asleep at the office, yet I just *had* to get into the trade. The minute the order hit, I realized what I did -- aside from a quick...

Any advantages to Single Stock Futures over Options?

SSFs have been handy for me when I wanted to short something quickly in response to news w/o worrying about uptick rules or figuring out which put was appropriate (ie, doing something reactively v. proactively thru options) SSFs are spot price action -- ie, no greeks -- therefore I use SSFs...

    terrorism plays

I would think the best one could do in the immediate aftermath of a terrorist attack (or something that might be viewed as such) would be to sell futures into the news to help offset losses in your other equity positions.....were it me I'd sell the ES, ER, YM in such crises.

    TV pump-n-dump?

Anyone else find the commercial for Connect-a-Jet somewhat odd in that after its marketing message, the advertisement concludes with a voiceover saying "Connect a Jet -- a publicly-traded company" while showing its ticker symbol on the screen? (The firm's ticker is CAJT.PK -- but they display...

    OXPS Question - streaming quotes

I've held of complaining about this problem here for several weeks, but I feel after 3 instances of the same problem recently I think it's okay to mention here. I've already contact their customer support to again report this problem, but want to see if anyone else is having issues like this...

    anybody is wathcing CNBC now?

I read the other day that the day following is "disappearance" from Fast Money he was a guest on Fox's Neil Cavuto's business show. I don't think CNBC would let their talent do commentary for a competitor, so I suspect he's jumping ship. Plus, I heard that his bio is no longer on CNBC's...

    anybody is wathcing CNBC now?

CNBC is trying to pre-empt Fox Biz Channel when it starts in October. I bet the personality juggling is to try folks out to ensure that if anyone signficant jumps ship they're covered. They're already lost Liz Clayman (major host) and Eric Bolling (Fast Money) to Fox. Since the network...

Time to temp stop swing trading?

You can swing-trade in any kind of market, sure....it all depends on your level of risk and appetite for volatility. I've passed on some GREAT swing trades over the past few weeks choosing instead to keep my cash safe. Did I feel remorse? A bit, but at least I knew my analysis was right, and...

    Question from a Beginner

Depends on your risk tolerance and how much you're willing to spend for that protection. SPY moves with SPX, it's just a smaller contract. That said, in terms of investment vehicles: SPY is liquid and has decent spreads - pretty good for starting out in index options; SPX options have big...
