c++ or java for trading app development

I agree with this without a problem. If you know you are going to be bound by speed use C++. Otherwise, give yourself a break and go java. In the past I did a lot of number crunching and needed C++. Today, I am more interested in information display and price action. Java is fine for...

c++ or java for trading app development

I have several years of experience in MFC and C++. I have also done some internet development in Java, very little GUI but a lot of sevlet and database stuff. In the past year Java 1.6 has received a lot of good press on how performance was improved. I installed Java 1.6 and did notice an...

    Objections to SCT

Great thread!!! My observations and objections to SCT would be: 1. Always in the market - reverse instead of exit. With round trip commissions less than 1 tick why stay in the market? If you are always in the market you are playing slots at the casino; if you wait for the best possible...

Is it me, or are there more pychologically deprived posters on ET

Austin, why not lecture Hershey? In a Spyder post last year, Spyder suggested Hershey tries to provoke discussion with his combative style. T28 and others are just trying to cooperate with Hershey's church membership drive! Yeah right. Why not lecture Hershey? Without T28 and a few others...

Share a keyboard and mouse without sharing the monitor

I have linksys kvm but now using synergy and like it a lot. With the kvm you have to hit a key to switch, with synergy you only have to move the mouse to the screen to switch control. Also, the kvm did not pass thru the scroll wheel on the mouse I was using. I have had no compatibility...

Developing, Marketing and Selling Trading Software

Imagine 50 ET traders calling you after last week's sell off complaining about how a bug in your program caused them to lose their life's savings. Very bad. If you don't have enough money to trade, you clearly do not have enough marketing money to drive people to your site... However...

Why do folks reveal Profitable Strategies, are they NUTS?

I am referring to the Futures thread. How many ES FTT trades do you actually trade each day? If the technique is such an edge, why not trade each and every one?

Why do folks reveal Profitable Strategies, are they NUTS?

What you do is draw lines on a chart, true that hasn't changed in years. On an average day you describe 6 or 7 channel traverses. How many of those do you actually trade? DO you actually trade each of those FFT trades you draw on your chart with such precision every day? Good trading.

Why do folks reveal Profitable Strategies, are they NUTS?

Yes, but as the strategy becomes mainstream the edge becomes less and less profitable. Turtles and Trend following, LTCM's approach to hedging, Marty Schwartz talks about a bond/S&P approach that worked until it was copied by others. Markets become more efficient through the publication of...

WHY is Elliott Wave supposed to work?

If you add 3 sine waves of different frequencies you will see an output that looks very much like a price time series. Elliot Waves describe price action across one cycle of the longest frequency. Michael Gur in "The Symmetry Wave Trading Method" went a long way to show the weakness of...

Anybody On E.t. Using Sine Waves ?

Some time ago I spent 'a lot' of time looking at digital signal processing and time series data. There is a good discussion on Tradestation forum the subject is there is anything in phase, amp, or frequency that can be used to trade. The consensus was no. Previous phase, amp, or freq has...

    innovative approaches

Once you share a new trading idea it takes about 3 years for it to find its way into the main stream. The market becomes more efficient and the edge disappears. The ratio between winners and losers remains constant but the barriers to entry and the 'quality needed in the next edge' increases...
