    Another one hangs it up

Why don't we just hang this thread up now... I don't see this going anywhere, and my mailbox is filling up with notices of thread updates. RoughTrader

    Another one hangs it up

Say you are the CEO of a fast food empire (McDonald's for example). Say that at the present time, you enjoy steady revenues and a healthy financial statement. Say your success is due to a well-diversified product (in this case, menu) line, composed of big macs, quarter pounders...

    Another one hangs it up

I won't argue with the posters that state that if the means to trade profitably are not there, then serious consideration should be given to pursuing other business ventures. Certainly this is true. For a while I couldn't really grasp the idea of "how much starting capital is enough" until I...

    Another one hangs it up

Even though you've already made your decision, I think you started trading for not quite the right reasons. It's no secret that this is the damn hardest business in the world to succeed in, simply because the profit potential is boundless and the barrier to entry is low. People get sucked...

    Degrees of Freedom

Deringer, you are suggesting what is already known. The issue here is understanding the assumptions made during the strategy design phase that lead to over-optimization / curve fitting. RoughTrader

    Degrees of Freedom

I have found a strong correlation in number of adjustable parameters and number of trades within the optimization period where curve-fitting is concerned. That is, in general, the less trades taken in the observation period and the more parameters used will tend to curve-fit the results more...

    Expectancy above .50??

I tend to agree that Profit factor is a very flawed concept. My experience as a purely mechanical trader has told me that if all parameters in the system are optimized over a finite number of trades, as the system walks forward in time the PF will drop. It's very debatable, but one hypothesis...

Does a hard drive rattle when it blows?

That clicking sound you here is the head armature seeking, and it is trying to read off the boot sector. What has probably happened is one of the heads on the arm blew up (yes, literally popped) and the drive is stuck trying to seek to a boot sector it cannot read (hence the repeated clicking...

Can't bring myself to leave my job.

HAH! You must live in San Jose, CA, huh? Not much selection of women here, I'm afraid, glad I moved to this place married. Seriously though, I'm an EE as well and have been working this industry for 8 years now. Got a nice degree and a company that respects me, and that goes a long way...

    TradeTheMarkets(Hubert)trading room ?

I used to hang out in John and Hubert's room before I took a break from it. I don't really have any opinion on Hubert's wanting newcomers to buy the CD, but I can say he was available a lot to help not only me but the other room members as well. Sometimes I would catch him in the room at night...
