Possible to become a success with 5k?

So, with everyone saying that $5k isn't enough ... what are your thoughts on how much you should start with reasonably? Better yet, what did you start with, and why?

Dual monitors feature in Window XP ?

It really depends on what your PC can support. Do you have two open PCI Express slots? If so, I'd get a couple of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814108147

Dual monitors feature in Window XP ?

You're better off getting two compatible cards (eg. 2 x nVidia GeForce w/ dual vga)

Possible to become a success with 5k?

Gee, now does everyone flaming him, calling his post spam feel a bit better? :D lol .. Anyway, I thought I would say that if you take the proper precautions to not lose the money, you should be just fine trading it. I am still getting into trading myself (w/ approximately the same size...

Dual monitors feature in Window XP ?

First of all, I don't think he was too clear, and secondly, I am pretty sure that he isn't looking for a mirroring solution. When people refer to dual monitors, their goal most often is to add screen space, not get a mirror of what they already have. As gnome once again has pointed out, the...

Dual monitors feature in Window XP ?

Precisely. Unless there is a video controller to render different content for a 2nd screen, you won't get any extra screen real-estate ... only a duplicated image as gnome has already said. Just FYI, I am a systems administrator, and computer hardware/software is my specialty ... this stuff...

Roth IRA vs. Individual for Trading

Wow, this is all great advice ... thanks all for the input thus far. @thehangingman: My original intent was to put a small amount of my capital into the Roth and simply invest in a mutual fund. I may, as someone else suggested, end up trading it a bit more actively if I develop a good...

Roth IRA vs. Individual for Trading

Hey, thanks for the input. I've got a day job, so I'm covered in the event of a severe failure, but I do have a few months of savings to go through before I burn out. Maybe I will just focus on the investing, as that's where my long-term goal is anyway. I wasn't sure if putting a small amount of...

    Chk

Agreed; That's why I'm thinking it'll turn around mid-January ... it just needs a little more time. The ADX indicator still shows an increasing downtrend, but I don't think it'll go too far considering increasing energy prices in 2007.

This equity has been on a downtrend since the beginning of December. It shows a low-end resistance around the $28 mark, and around $33 on the upper end. I am estimating that it will continue in a downtrend until mid-January and reverse into the lower 30's around the end of February. With this in...

    CM69's stock picking journal

I would still think you should set a target price on these, even though you aren't going to set a time frame. At least have some expectation of how much you expect to make per equity and set a limit order? I also like the way you defended your picks in your second post. Cheers

    wire transfer fees

Honestly ... I get paid weekly by my day job employer, and I don't really even notice. I handle my finances in such a way that I always have enough money in savings to cover my bills for a few months before running dry.

    wire transfer fees

Yeah, wire transfer fees have always seemed expensive. IB has one free transfer per month, but check requests are only $4.00 thereafter ... not bad, if you ask me, considering you shouldn't need to request money all that often?
