    Will Russia invade Ukraine

Part of my past training was as a Soviet-East Europe specialist, and I travelled very extensively in that region long ago. My strongest sense about all of the recent headlines was that NOTHING was as it appeared to be, so often the case in that region. I also felt that the current administration...

Anything on VIX? Spill it Right Here Baby.

A followup on the UVXY put I bought. I did not mention it but part of my past training was as a Soviet-East Europe specialist, and I travelled extensively in that region long ago. My strongest sense about all of the recent headlines was that Nothing was as it appeared to be, so often the case in...

Anything on VIX? Spill it Right Here Baby.

Is anybody playing yesterday's massive VIX spike long or short via futures, ETF, or options on them? Unfortunately I was having some tech problems when it happened, but upon resolution of those I did buy an inexpensive UVXY put with 17 minutes to go till the end of RTH. My rationale was that...

    Best Broker for ES options?

Have you looked into tastyworks? Their platform was built around options trading, and with MES options at least, there is no commision for exiting a position, only exchange fees. I believe it is the same for full-sized ES options. Overall I am happy there.

    Trading Natural Gas

Interesting charts! I have considered KOLD post and pre-market but no trades as of yet. One thing I have noticed about BOIL even during RTH is that it can have a wider and more erratic spread compared to KOLD. In terms of option premiums, the spread there with both is wider and more erratic than...

    Trading Natural Gas

I have traded CL more than NG, but my interest in the Widowmaker is growing. I am looking to start using KOLD and BOIL for small swing and day trade positions as an experiment, also the QG mini contract. In terms of acual trades, a couple of weeks ago as an experiment I bought an extremely...

    Cramer brilliant VIX insights

Thanks for posting that video. It was indeed worthwhile because it was based on the sharp analysis of Mark Sebastian, and not Cramer's brain. It gave me some food for further thought and analysis of my own. With Cramer and his incredibly annoying voice, he is a great example of how this bizarre...

Why the heck are my QQQ put options not up more?

I have been trading futures for over a decade, and it took some hard knocks to learn a few key lessons. As I start to delve into the labyrinth of options pricing theory recently, it became readily apparent that it is a great place for newbies like me to be handed their heads, or to lose their...

ETF Options taxed as Sec 1256 Contracts.

This article from Forbes gives a decent outline, and also points out some of the complexities, such as: "One might expect that broker-issued 1099-Bs would handle all tax treatment issues, but for some financial products, they do not. Some brokers categorize CBOE-listed options on volatility...

ETF Options taxed as Sec 1256 Contracts.

One of my sisters is a CPA, and she would not have a clue regarding a definitive answer. This is a lot like law, where there are many specialties requiring a modicum of experience and applied research. I have had the same question myself. There are traders who wish to know ahead of time...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

Thanks again Ghappy 21, I now have a Roth IRA set up with them and have been approved for futures trading, just waiting on my funding to get set up. I am very impressed with customer service so far and the way they have laid out their processes. If you wish, you could send me a referral code and...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

I trade both intraday and positional. Very selectively and not hyperactively. I am pleased to see that with that broker micros are also deemed to include mini oil, grains, and the 1,000 oz silver. Plenty of options for me. I often just pay attention to gold, Euro, and one stock index, either Dow...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

Sounds like you are successful specializing in something that you understand very well, congratulations and all the best to you! I have emailed a few questions to the broker. My research on the Apex clearing firm gives me some questions, so will do a bit more on that end as well.

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

I have spent many hours over many days investigating possible options for my goals, and you presented by far the best solution that I have encountered, so I thank you! I will do my due diligence and investigate further, but the pedigree of the organization is a good foundation. The platform will...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

Thanks for that additional info, since I don't trade options at present the company is new to me. Yes I have heard of the new Small Exchange, it looks to fit a niche and I will be considering their products. I have traded Micros and Full-sized CME products for years. But now I wish to trade in a...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

Thanks much for your reply! Almost all FCMs require an outside custodian such as Midland or Advanta in order to be able to trade futures in an IRA, which amounts to over $300 in fees per year and additional fees for withdrawals. IB and TD are the only exceptions that I have been able to find...

Trading indexes in an IRA W/O a Custodian?

Micro stock indexes have proven to be a great innovation. Now I wish to trade them in an IRA. I am aware of Interactive Brokers and TD Ameritrade, both of which do not require a custodian for a futures enabled IRA. I have investigated both and each has certain strictures I would prefer not to...

Futures Brokers for IRA that DON"T require a Custodian?

Thank you for posting those current figures, so these are even above 2X maintenance to day trade them! TD is only 125% of initial, but I don't currently have 25K in an ira. What is the procedure at IB to pay yourself from gains, is it a hassle or is it easy and cheap, or even free? Do they have...

Futures Brokers for IRA that DON"T require a Custodian?

Thanks for your comment Matt. One of my concerns about using a custodian is the expense of paying myself periodically from my trading gains. What is the cheapest way to pay myself via Midland? Do they have ACH capacities and if s the fee? What is their fee for a wire out and for a check out?
