Are the shares you buy real?

You might look at your broker's agreement which defines that the stock is held in street name and also how they handle forced purchases when they no longer can borrow enough shares and have to randomly choose which customer gets hit.

What FOREX brokers do not creat their own market?

I have no experience trading forex with any broker other than Interactive Brokers. Works great for me. They have several liquidity providers for each currency pair, and although they list themselves as one of them, I don't think in general that they are taking the other side of the trade. I...

Are the shares you buy real?

I don't think you can normally tell because at most brokers your shares are held in street name (i.e. the broker is the registered owner). Therefore, all of the clients owning the same stock own a piece of the broker's total shares in the stock but they are not individually assigned.

    IB - weird forex trade

I have not seen lagging forex quotes either. The few times it has happened to me has been with amounts of $50-100k.

    IB - weird forex trade

I've had the same thing happen with USDJPY. I'm not sure why it's happened, but of course, nothing to complain about. But two possibilities: 1) Someone entered an order in IDEAL, and because of the wider spreads, entered it below your bid. IB automatically transferred your order to IDEAL to...

    Forex spreads

You buy at the ask and sell at the bid. So if you entered a buy and then immediately sold, you would loose the spread, not twice the spread. Most forex dealers do not charge a commission but some do. From my experience, those charging a commission have tighter spreads so you might find it...

    Fidelity Cash Reserves question

Insurance up to $250 k although I think this is set to expire at year end. Keep in mind that this fund has an average portfolio maturity of around 60 days. So a more realistic worst case would be that the share price breaks a dollar and is at 98 or 99 cents. And even in this case I would...

Need Good Excuse to Allow bypass through Firewall

Given the current job market, I wouldn't do anything to bypass or get thru a corporate firewall. But if you don't heed that advise, try telling them the whole truth and nothing but the truth. "I want to day trade during my coffee breaks and lunch hour."

IBFX - Note to fellow traders

Fair enough. Some are reuptable. It's just harder to know what you're getting when dealing with an unregulated entity.

IBFX - Note to fellow traders

I'm not familiar with IBFX. But face facts. If you're dealing with someone that trades against you, don't expect them to act like they have a fiduciary responsibility to you. Get yourself to a firm that makes money from you exclusively from spread or commission and that won't trade against...

Rollover rates better at Gain vs. IB, does anyone care about this?

I agree with cstfx's comments. Comparing interest paid/charged by itself might be important if you're buying and holding. But for trading, the spreads are far more significant.

    The Little Guy Loses Again

On the rare occasion when IB has busted a trade, I've been automatically credited for the commission. If you didn't get it refunded, ask and eventually you'll get it. Whenever there's a big move, try to confirm it in a parallel market. For example, if a currency future spikes, check the...

Tax question re: day trading in/out same stock

They don't. You do. It's just like reporting capital gains on Schedule D. The IRS can determine if your reported gross proceeds from sales tie to broker submitted 1099s. But they can't determine if your cost for the stocks and reported profits are correct unless they audit you and ask for...

It's a widow and orphans stock. They need to maintain some dividend to provide income for long time stockholders.

    Why Not Interactive Brokers?

I've had good luck with IB for forex as well. The charting isn't very good so I use QuoteTracker which works out OK for me. Commissions are cheap and the best way I know of to tell I'm not getting cheated is when I have a limit order executed with price improvement. This results in many of my...

Max. Order Size on IDEAL Pro?

You can also set up a Scale Order in TWS with a minimum price difference (i.e. 0.5 pip). For example, to buy 20M AUD at .6500 you could buy 4M each at .6501, .65005, .6500, 64995 and .6499.
