What's up with those 0.00001$ shares?

Go to pinksheets.com to get further information on the stocks they list. They include solid stocks that aren't sold on U.S. exchanges (e.g. some European stocks), stocks that have been delisted due to low stock price or not meeting exchange reporting requirements, stocks that are on shaky...

    BP dividend

To simplify the explanation a bit, you get the dividend if you buy a stock before the ex-dividend date and don't sell it until (or after) the ex-dividend date. But specifically with regards to BP, the last ex-dividend date for the ADRs sold on the NYSE was November 10. The next ex-dividend...

Only 8 more trading days left this year

More or less I pulled the plug this afternoon. It's been a good year. No sense in screwing it up now.

    New to FOREX. Spreads?

You only pay the spread once. For example, say you are buying EUROS with USD. The quote is 1.4200 bid and 1.4201 ask. So you buy at 1.4201. Then say you immediately sell with the quote unchanged. So you sell at 1.4200. The difference between you buy and sell is 0.0001 which is the spread...

    Wash Sale Question, Example

My apologies in advance but you don't know what you're talking about. No wash sale in this case so long as there were no other WXYZ transactions within + or - 30 days. The holding period has nothing to do with it.

    trading forex via Interactive Brokers

IB doesn't use lots. You buy (and sell) whole units. For example, 38000 Euros, or 38001 Euros if you prefer. Whatever you want. Their accounting, including overnight financing, does give some traders fits, however. I'll leave it to others to point out all of the pros and cons. Certainly...

    What is "Dividend Accrual"

Cash basis tax payers don't have to report accrued dividends. It's only reported in the year actually received/paid. If received, it's dividend income reported on form 1040. If paid, as is the case if you held the stock short on the record date, it adds to your basis which reduces the amount...

What is the risk of losing my money with a futures broker ?

Wouldn't SIPC insurance kick in in the case of failure of a futures broker? Eliminates the risk for most accounts.

    IDEALPRO lots calc question

You'll never come up with exactly a $10 pip movement. You may start with one but once the USD/JPY rate changes, your pip movement in AUD/JPY will be higher or lower than $10.

    Senior Life Settlements

A safer way to play this is through a company like LPHI.

    debt with broker!

A couple of comments. 1) Poor practice on the part of Global Futures to not liquidate your account until you already had negative equity. It should have been done after you were below the minimum margin requirement but before there was nothing left in the account. 2) When the trade...

    Pink Sheet Orders?

I wouldn't trade Pink Sheet stocks either but they aren't all problematic. Many that trade there are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange or a European exchange. For example, I own ENLAY which is the Italian utility ENEL. I either could buy it on Pink Sheets or pay a high commission to have...

    Pink Sheet Orders?

All (most?) brokers have an "ALL OR NONE" option. Fill or kill is a one shot deal. If you submit it and it can't be filled, your order is cancelled. With all or none, you have a limit order that will stay open until it can be completely filled.

Need Help With K-1 Tax Form

I'm not a tax accountant but provide this guidance (to be used at your own risk). 1) You should receive detailed instructions that show line by line where to report partnership items. But in general, you report your share of the pass through income and adjust your basis upward. The fact...

IB and buying stocks in Aussie

If you're trading, you might just want to make the purchases on margin and consider the financing cost as part of your strategy. The rates are pretty low right now even on the AUD.

I'm not aware of any broker that considers offsetting positions like that to reduce the margin requirement.

Ex-dividend date on Yahoo and several other websites seem to be incorrect

The NYSE does not show a holiday. The record date for PGN's dividend is October 12 (per the company's web site). But that would make a purchase on October 7 eligible for the dividend and hence an ex-dividend date of October 8. So I'm confused as well.

Please recommend an APC UPS battery

I reccently bought an Ultra 2000VA UPS at CompUSA. I think it was $200. I have my Dell Workstation, 3 monitors, modem and router all attached. I can run 1 hour+ without power.

    IB Forex Trading

If you have the best bid/ask it will display in TWS. If not, you can still see your bid/ask in market depth as long as you are the best bid/ask offered by an IB client. I have gotten my orders hit by other IB clients but it's not regular and usually not of much size. But you will not be hit...

Getting rid of EUR balances in IB account

As dhpar says, IB will automatically clear small balances. They just converted 0.98 Euro in my account this past week. So buy/sell enough USD to get as close to 0.00 Euros as you can and eventually it will be taken care of without any other action on your part.
