    IB Margin Requirement Strangeness

IB's margin does seem to be different than regular brokerage firms. Most regular brokers(I don't know about other direct access) seem to use a SMA account(special memorandum account) which is a journal entry not seen by the client. This type of calculation is not as strict as IB because...

    Ravenquote

Can Ravenquote automatically draw extended support/resistance lines on intraday charts? for example: prev high, low, hour high, hour low or custom S/R calculations where the user predefines a formuala? thanks

    Stock Picks sites?

I tried two chatrooms: undergroundtrader.com millennium-trader.com and they simply do not work for me. Its too much and to many calls to manage and I felt like I was wasting my time there. Sure they call possible entries for short term scalps but you can do the same thing just following...

    Series 7

The test is long and boring and takes about 6 hours or less depending on the individual. When I took it my employer gave me study materials from this guy: http://www.bobeder.com/

    Was this month harder

I'm having a better month than last but not really making a lot yet as I'm easing into trading. Today was up and down for me... Mental breakdown and down $500 by 11am.. Up $100 by close, chasing PDLI around all afternoon worked well. There still are some volatile stocks out there and thats...

Janko, I trade with a relatively small account at the moment. You can bet I'll fund it with that minimum next month. I can't advise you to leave your job or anything like that. With me, when I develop a passion for something I have to go for it no matter the risks(but thats just me).. you...

Janko, I quit my job as a commission based broker 5 months ago so I'm really new at daytrading. Of course I've traded a lot the last couple years but not much intraday. Maybe Qcharts has bad data for all I know, but I'm not scalping for pennies and their time/sales seems to be in sync with...

ECHOtrade's solution to new daytrading rule.

This sounds good to me. I'm currently trading with a little under 25k(but growing :) and I'm with Interactive brokers. I still have my Series7 license active so do you guys recommend I switch to Echo? I'll make sure I have 25k in the account by next month but should I switch anyway??? I'd...

Janko, I'm relatively new to day trading (although not swing trading) and my Qcharts setup that you see on Dustins page has been enough for me so far. I'm still puzzled with all the talk of data problems with it, on the few times its gone down I just switch to a different server. I find...

    Is IB EDAT?

Marty, You can route your orders with IB to the same exchanges and ECN's as any direct access broker. There really isn't a difference in execution between IB and other Direct access brokers. So, the answer is IB is a EDAT with no charting or bells and whistles.

    Windows 2000 or Windows XP

Also, you need to make sure your software is compatible with the operating system you choose. Of course, different software vendors will have their own operating system requirements but windows2000 works with almost all software I've come across.

    Windows 2000 or Windows XP

My opinion is that either Windows 2000(professional) or Windows XP would be fine. Either choice should be stable enough to handle all the trading software you can get your hands on:) Make sure you get a lot of Memory(ram) for your system. Running numerous memory intensive programs such as...
