Attention: To Interactive Brokers, et. al.

All fun aside, it would be interesting to see how many Wizetrade users make money...but I think the "95%" rule is still in effect.

Attention: To Interactive Brokers, et. al.

I wonder how many new business start-ups fail in the first year? What, is it like 95 percent? HOLY CRAP! I demand that NOBODY start a new business!! I blame the Government.

Attention: To Interactive Brokers, et. al.

I used to work for a direct access broker, not IB though. Yes, 95 percent of retail traders lose money. I fail to see how this is new news or the brokers' fault.

    On a good day.

Has anyone gone to Trader's Expo?

I've been to several. Is it worth it? It depends why you want to go.

n00b question: Can I buy a stock a day before dividends issue and get my dividend?

Good point. I was trying to keep it simple for a newbie.

n00b question: Can I buy a stock a day before dividends issue and get my dividend?

Off the top of my head, these are the points you need to consider. You need to hold the stock by the "record date" to get the dividend. This day is usually 1 day BEFORE "ex-dividend" date. So if a company "announces" a dividend, that doesn't mean you get the dividend and then sell the...

    Dead or alive?

Redwood Trading and Daytrading.net, the lights are on but nobody's home. Websites are up, phones disconnected. Anybody know the story?

    Proprietary Trading

You seem like an OK guy so I'll spell it out for you. This business (trading) is full of get-rich-quick ripoff artists, many of which come to this board and present "great products/opportunities"...most of which are a complete sham. Most people figure if you have something good, you would...

    What's better than cable?

yup, you can put a line into a broker's servers if they allow for it, be prepared to pay out big bucks. Call the broker of your choosing and ask them who they recommend and how much they think you'll need to spend.

    Avidus- Genesis

What about Genesis' policy of holding your capital contribution for a year after you leave? That isn't a great point...I don't know of many firms that do that.

    Good API's

So if I understand you correctly, the IB TWS API and Cyber API are not real APIs? They both allow a developer to add on their own data/auto-trading program to the TWS/CyberX2 execution system in a way that is not available with the standard versions. What is this called, from a development...

    Good API's

I've been working with broker APIs for years and have yet to see where the term has been misused.

    Good API's

Yeah, they won't talk to you if your trading less than 500K shares a month, but their API is good. Cyber API is free and easy to get, its OK but if it doesnt do what you want it to or how you want it done, forget it. What you see is what you get.

Lime Brokerage, the rest are a gamble.

n00b question: Can I buy a stock a day before dividends issue and get my dividend?

Don't forget that the stock price drops by the amount of the dividend too. You get the cash, but its a wash.

    Toronto Office

Were any of the traders there any good? Like 150K net or more (U.S.)? I heard that Quest traders as a whole had bad habits but I thought there must be some good traders there.

    Why not remote prop?

Maybe they don't, but I know that there are definitely some that do. Would this make a real difference? Is that why remote traders steer clear of prop?
