    Exploitable difference in option premiums..

Got me all excited at first !!! I thought you were saying basically the Oct 03 was trading at like $5 and the Oct 05 was trading $4 !!! I was trying to think of what kind if cost of carry or other factors was causing this discrepancy.....it's very rare but there may be something similar with...

    Exploitable difference in option premiums..

While its true that options in the nearer term will decay faster than those farther out, a position like you described leaves you open to price movement in the short term. A quick example would be if the stock moved up 2 or 3 bucks in the next month, the straddle in Oct 03 would increase more...

    Exploitable difference in option premiums..

Are you saying that the price of the Oct 05 straddle is lower than the price of the Oct 03 straddle, or the implied volatility is lower in the Oct 05 than the Oct 03 ? I cannot believe that the price of the Oct 05 is lower than the Oct 03. Vega:D And what index/security are you looking at ?

I agree that cancel fees are a friggin joke, and don't know what else I can say about that. As far as the bid/ask thing, I personally think that people are going to be getting a little to much rope to hang themselves. Initially they'll be giddy with being able to bid/ask at the same time...

Freehouse, FWIW, I've seen this stuff first person, I'm an ex-MM on the floor of the CBOE. I'll be the first to admit that the electronic exchanges have some benefits, but I also have to admit that it cracks me up hearing people bitch about the MMs games. Before anyone automatically assumes...

How many of the people here are using options to trade straight volatility ? I could be wrong but I think that most are using them to either hedge stock/futures positions, or make directional bets. Yet it seems like so many people are getting so excited about being able to make bids and offers...

question about open intrest in index futres and rollover

I don't think that the e-mini vs pit contract open interest automatically cancel each other out at the end of day. You will find that a ton of the open interest is arbed by groups using both the big contact and the e-mini depending on which offers the best price at that point in time. Also...

    What's the catch?

He hit the nail on the head. Essentially what that strategy will ultimately come down to is you trading futures outright when the SP hits 1050. Say it goes to 1053 and you buy a future, 5 minutes later, its at 1045, what do you do ? Sell and take an 8 pt loss, hold and hope for a rally--in...

    US index options

Option Volatility and Pricing by Sheldon Natenburg is considered by many to be somewhat of the options bible. I forget the name but there is another one by Lawrence McMillan that's pretty good. These two are good overviews of option trading, but I'm not sure that they really cover that much...

    Immigration--Elites ignore voters

My sister is a grade school teacher up in northern Illinois, near the Harvard and McHenry area for those familiar with Illinois. This area has experienced a rapid growth in Mexican families moving to the area over the last 10-15 years. The teachers used to joke that there must be a sign near...

    Option's Advisors, Any Experiences?

You have to go to I think the second or third page of old threads as there has not been any new posts in a few days. Again, you can't lump every letter/service into this category, but I'd be willing to be that for every 1 good one there are 100s that are pure crap. Vega:D

    US index options

Pretty basic information, but check www.cboe.com and www.cme.com and look around and you should be able to find some info on contact specifications, expirations and the like. Vega:D

    Option's Advisors, Any Experiences?

The book is great, I was speaking of a daily recommendation sheet that he used to (may still) send out to subscribers. I was merely commenting on daily recommendation sheets in genereal, and I supposed the McMillan example was bad (cuz he is probably one of the more respectable people in the...

Eurex, Chicago Exchanges get ready to rumble

Bottom of 6th inning, Cubbies leading 2-0 over that SECOND city team, the New York Mets !!!!!!!!:p :p Go Cubs, Go Sox !!!!!!!!!! After years of crappy baseball, and a very prosperous financial district, looks like things are changing, Cubs and Sox still playing for something in late...

    Option's Advisors, Any Experiences?

I've used McMillans daily calls a long time ago, and they were ok, but keep in mind that the majority of these things are bogus. If you had a great strategy, why would you sell it ? If it was so good, even if you were undercapitalized, you would be making money and growing your bankroll and...

Eurex, Chicago Exchanges get ready to rumble

No love for the Chi-town exchanges huh ? I spent 7 years between the CBOE and CME, and to be honest I can't believe those places are still around. Unfortunately, I started trading there just after the gold rush, so I wasn't able to cash in on the free money being handed out pre-2001. It's...

    Remote Proprietary Firms

Just a quick question, if I'm putting up the money and swallowing the losses, why would I want to give them 50% of what I make ? Realistically how much capital contribution are we talking about, under 10,000 ? I just don't get why I would split the profits and eat all the losses, unless they...

Hurricane Isabel is bearing down ...

Not trying to take away from the threatening weather aspect of this, but how do you profit from this possible catastrophe ? Short the insurers that have the most exposure to the region ? Buy crude and natural gas futures in hopes that the refineries are shut down due to lack of power and prices...
