    newbie looking for help

I don't have too much basis for comparison on the actual software. I was giving you perspective from the programming language point of view. I just happen to "know" EL because most of the time that I borrow concepts, it's from code someone else wrote for EL. EL has lots of nice functions, and...

    newbie looking for help

I've been porting code from TradeStation EL to E-Signal EFS & C++. TradeStation EL is an "easier" language to use; however, if you know nothing about programming, they all will require time and commitment. To a programming beginner, I'd recommend TradeStation EL. Get some books to show you...

Derivation of Historical Volatility -- lognormal price distribution, yes... BUT ...

Pardon my statistics ignorance -- Check my reasoning here. I haven't had a reason to use statistics since college, so I'm trying to make sense of it all: Analagously, you're saying this would be like looking at a to-scale model airplane and then trying to deduce the dimensions of a real...

    Trader P/L 2005

+$747. New record. I am so screwed up from having made this much, that I have to stop. I'm still shaking.

How to properly scan for opportunities?

I don't know what the point of your response to me here is. If you're trying to belittle me because you're some awesome trader who knows everything and has 20 years of experience, then you're a jackass. I made a few hundred dollars in Oct, Nov, and I just want to keep it moving up. If I...

How to properly scan for opportunities?

I might be able to help you out with the technical stuff. I'm a software engineer. I don't have access to REDI, though. I like this idea.

    Trader P/L 2005

+$25. Haha. (+$151 before commissions, so definitely a churn-ful day.) Another grinder of a day. I should've stopped when I was much more ahead. Still, positive finish is better than the negative finishes of last week. I think I was trading all the wrong things today.

The offer is missing in ABS!?

I'm trading this thing this morning, and the offer is gone. As in, there is NO NYSE offer posted in the level-2 box. I asked a few other guys at Genesis and they also see no offer. Is anyone else seeing this? There is ZERO, nada, NOTHING. I took a screenshot to prove it. This is totally...

    Short 500 AAPL at $75

Just like Larry Livingstone and Union Pacific in "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator" ... Nice trade. You have more balls than I.

    Trading Forex Long-Term

There's always a "point of no return" in a strong trend. Assuming you identify the right support/resistance zone in conjunction with the trend direction, you won't have to sit through too much heartache of ups and downs. In stocks, this principle works well for me. I cut losses very fast...

    Trader P/L 2005

I traded 22,000 shares and ended up with $30 after commissions. (Before commissions, I had $124. This only means one thing: I was churning and grinding.) Upon the advice of some more skilled traders who post to this thread, I took profits whenever I got 5-6 cents because the market...

Derivation of Historical Volatility -- lognormal price distribution, yes... BUT ...

I'm reading the book "Professional Stock Trading", and he does some calculations for the historical volatility that I don't fully understand. He says the calculation is based on some math for the Black-Scholes model, which I have yet to review. But, the way it works is this...

    Trader P/L 2005

+$239.92. Took some of Steve Tvardek's suggestions about having 4 level-2 screens on the monitor. Steve, if you are ever in Los Angeles, I will buy you a case of beer because just changing my layout improved my ability to spot opportunities. I could have made 2x as much, but I've been so...

    E-Signal EFS is frustrating.

I've offloaded a lot of the computation into DLLs written in C++, but the painting of data is still slow. Is there any way to "cull" data efficiently before it gets sent off to E-Signal's rendering system? The delay when loading a new chart is unbearable. I can leave it running I suppose, ...

    Losing more than you invested

50 pips or greater? Are you serious? I'm an FX newb, and I get away with much less than that, but I'm paying attention to time&sales and market depth to see how much of a "noise band" there is. I generally like to enter trades with momentum on my side in the FX market to minimize noise...

    E-Signal EFS is frustrating.

Do you actually get good performance out of EFS? If I do anything remotely complex, ... when I flip around between charts during the day, the system takes full seconds just to display anything. I'm not even talking about complex stuff, ... try their OHLC functions for example. I'm worried...

    E-Signal EFS is frustrating.

Forget it. I've had it with working inside EFS natively. I'm just going to invoke DLLs externally and do all the computation inside efficient C++ packages.

    E-Signal EFS is frustrating.

Am I wasting my time with this thing, or what? I've been implementating a trading system based on statistical arbitrage, and I've been porting elements from books with EL code. I look on their online help to see if, for example, they've already coded a basic standard deviation of a set of...

How to properly scan for opportunities?

You need the level-2 box all the time. Even stocks under 1 mil shares use ARCA and ISLD, it's just there might be less depth there.

How to properly scan for opportunities?

How did you know to look at those stocks this morning? What triggered your interest? Just simple answers would help a lot. I churned a lot today. I.e., commissions ate up whatever I managed to steal from the market.
