    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

These days you have to trade according to the futures a lot more (after you're filled). Which is probably a sign of less participation from the specialist.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

man, How do you pick your pairs? Just curious. I've been pairtrading intraday for some years, but implemented my own swingtrading system to get a better risk/reward. I've picked 35 pairs based on certain criterias. So far, it's been going pretty well.

    New Specialist trick today.

That's my biggest nightmare. Electronic? The specialist system is a gift for scalping/daytrading if you know how to do it. Sure, the specialist has been increasingly difficult to trade with the last couple of monhts, but still worthwile.

How many separate strategies/systems do you trade concurrently?

I trade 3 strategies, two for daytrading and one for 1-15 days swingtrade. They're all "mean-reverting". There is less to prey on for daytrading, that's the reason for the swingtrade strategy. Fed up with trading for 5 cent profit daytrading.

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

A lot of talk about the indications today. I registred that Don wrote a lot about those last year and checked it out by actually counting winners and losers (instead of taking anything for granted). I have about 800 observations and can conclude that the indications have absolutely no predictive...

It's $200, free if you trade more than 200K. Commission is 1 cent and much lower.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

Do you trade trending spreads (go with the trend)? It's my impression that nasdaq spreads trend a lot more than listed pairs. Just an impression, i haven't conducted any research on nasdaq spreads, i only trade listed spreads.

    Pairs Trading Strategy Model

Be careful with adding to a position and holding it for days (unless it's a small position). I've seen many people losing months profit when something abnormal happens overnight (and over several days). Don't confuse good trading with luck and random events. I'm trading pairs myself and...

Need more info on Pair & Opening Strategies

The buy and hold strategy...... Who wrote about the buy and hold strategy? Unknown for the public for decades. Written about in 2000 and stopped working in 2001...... Too many buying and holding.....

Need more info on Pair & Opening Strategies

So why do you promote the OO strategy on this website to attract more traders??? To me it means the strategy probably not working anymore.

    Niederhoffer new book

Why does everybody focus on his trading abilities? Why not just read the book and find out if you learn something. Quite simple. Education of a Speculator is the best book i have about speculation. Did he go belly up? It's still a great book.

    Niederhoffer new book

I consider Education of a Speculator as one of the best book I've ever read, in any field. I couldn't care less if he blew up his fund. So what? Does that make the book worthless? It's completely irrelevant. I have gained much by the EdSpec, both in my daily speculation and my life in...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Well said, egusc. I've been trading IBM as well, with less fills the last year. It's also less "slingshots" (as don calls it) that it used to be (i have statistics). One must be rather naive to think that the OO strategy will work just as wll regardless of the number of traders. It still...

Pairs Trading On a daily basis

And many misunderstand doubling up with good trading (when doing pairs). But any trader still has high probability of making good money doing it. It boils down to avoid the 0,5% chance of getting into a neverending trending spread (like pvn/cof (?)). And who knows beforehand???

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Well, I trade only very liquid stocks, which I think most people do. To trade any size (2K-4K) in stocks with less than an average volume of 800K is difficult (in my opinion, and one fill every second month). So most who do opening gravitate towards the same stocks.

I'm not sure if you're being ironic...... come on.....we're all fighting to get filled in the same 100 stocks....forget the rest of the 2000 NYSE stocks....
