Do you tell people you're a trader?

Your right. Trading is most certainly gambling. Your wrong. If I trade managed accounts the service my trading renders is a superior return to an index fund. Hopefully anyway. :)

Using Short absorption execution time as a guage

The guy who trained me as a trader used to say "if its to easy to short then it ain't worth being short"...so true. When they are lifting your offers like water you better cover and go long.....

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

Yes. I position size according to my distance from my stop. My initial stop is 3 times 63 day ATR. So if I risk $500 per trade and my initial stop is 9 point away I get 55.55 shares..i`ll round it down. I am sure my broker hates me.......but it works for me.

One downside to trading a long/short approach are the strong trend days. They force your positions to pair off on each other. But we all know how often these days come along. :) Anyhoo....daily fluctuations are simply static to me so kudos to you guys who make a living daytrading! p.s...

Walking the walk (Blotter Thread Continued)

I trade this account as if I were a long/short fund. Never really knock the cover off the ball but on balance I take a grand or so out of the market every month. Not bad for swing trading a small account (75k). I only trade stocks with 3 month ATR > 2 points and 3 month avg daily volume > 1mm...

    Nasdaq & NYSE different universe?

In my opinion anybody who knocks the open outcry system has never traded size in thin names. Trading thin NY stocks are a pleasure compared to issues of the same daily avg vol on the Naz. I have had the spec flash me size when he knows I am trying to do something..I shit you not. When they see...

Anyone else get negative response when you explain career?

First off when anybody asks you what you do for a living chances are they want to tell you what they do. Ego! And unless they donate 100% of their time to charity or the church I would promptly tell them to fuck off if they had an issue...nobody works for free. Bottom line is who cares...
