    Traders beware island scam

Unfortunately I victimized myself on an island buy in just this fashion about a year ago. Hit the offer for 500 shares exactly 1 pt above what I really intended to buy, on a fairly fast moving stock. I considered it a lesson, never tried to break the trade, and have not since repeated it...

    MBTrading: Any comments?

Used MB in the past. Very responsive customer service and generally very good service. A concern of mine is that they apparently have no way to directly route listed orders, and charge ecn fees while doing so. This may not be exactly correct as I haven't used them in several years, but be...

    Overtrading

June was my first losing month this year, but I should have seen it coming. As this year has progressed I've experimented with ever decreasing time intervals and ever increasing trade size. This has been spurred on by the consistency of my winnings, leading me to believe that I could continue...

    JPM Derivatives Monster

A trisecta occurs when one is forced to use last year's cat, which was in turn the previous year's cat, for the college course in anatomy where you cut up cat's. Shoot education budget cuts have to cut somewhere, recycling cats can save ya a ton of money.

Is this Citygroup thing going to affect IB?

My guess is that the Employee/Owners at The World's Largest Airline would take your Citi concerns to heart (play catchy theme song here, "Ba Ba Ba-bum, Da Da Da-dum)." Who says big business is bulletproof? All the same, with regard to the question of IB accounts, there is federal insurance.

    Successful Trading

John Maynard Keynes, a famous economist, beauracrat, author and speculator stated: "By 'uncertain' knowledge....I do not mean merely to distinguish what is known for certain from what is only probable. The game of roulette is not subject, in this sense, to uncertainty...The sense in which I...

    SEC fee changes

Few firms will "all in" the SEC fee. Interactive Brokers apparently does include the SEC fee in their published share rate, just as ECN fees are included, which is pretty generous. My prop firm doesn't eat the SEC fee, but pass it on to the trader. I'm not even sure what the current rate...

    QCharts... It delivered the goods!!!

True. I think QCharts wins "most improved" data service. Remember how awful they were 2 years ago? This isn't your father's qcharts. The service is far from perfect but is leaps ahead of where it was, and is a fair deal considering the competition.

State Income Tax - Is it Worth it?

There is a budget shortfall in Alaska, hence the vote on an income tax. Regarding the permanence of the Permanent Fund, it is a quasi-private corporation funded by an oil revenue tax. The legislature has tried to gut the fund many times, always unsuccesfully. Last year a bill was introduced...

State Income Tax - Is it Worth it?

Yes to Alaska. Legislature just voted down a proposed income tax. Broadband is even available in the form of DSL in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, and other "non-bush" towns. Cost of living isn't that high in the towns on the road system. For those interested in how a really big pool of...

Schonfeld Sec. bad moon rising ???

I share Candle's apparent surprise at the claims that current markets are so difficult on traders. In 1999 I was a new trader and I lost money. In 2000 I was still a new trader and I broke even. In 2001 I made some money. This year so far I have exceeded all the personal goals I set for...

    Home alone vs office

I trade profitably from home. I sincerely believe home-based trading is the best choice for lots of people. With that I must say that a big regret of mine is not starting out trading in an office. The learning curve in this business is brutal, and I almost destroyed myself trying to learn to...

Exactly. P2 keeps a very detailed log detailing the behaviour of individual specialists, how they run their order flow, and general tendencies they have. I'm sure this is a big benefit, but the observations take time and patience to acquire. Open Book, which I have not yet had the opportunity...

    Net Capital requirements for broker/dealers.

Good advice from the EchoTrade manager above. If you want to go prop, then don't put more than you need to fund your account into the firm. There is risk, and you aren't insured. Plus why are you going prop if you aren't going to trade on a short time frame and take advantage of the leverage...
