Is IB still on elevated Margin compared with January this year? I think they sent a email saying the margin increase but does it end/wear off? I found that they charge a crap ton of margin even for stocks.

According to the screenshot in the twitter link, the trader mis-read the UI thinking that he lose 700k but actually this is just the negative cash for being assigned the AMZN stock. He still have 16k equity in the screenshot.

What is unbearable for you? The TWS may not be the best in terms of stability and user friendliness but the mobile app is quite good. Depends on your need but yeah switch brokers or use something like Ninja trader.

My worry about IBHK is they are bound by the HK laws, which include many of the emergency laws about handling assets. e.g. trading with the enemy ordinance. If you have some backup outside HK sure you have nothing to worry about, but many people do not have anything outside HK.
