When calculating risk, you have to take the worst case. The worst case is a market gap against you. Say it gaps 100pips against you. It doesn't matter if your stop is -5pips or -50pips, you get filled at -100pips. There's a reason why brokers don't base margin calculations on where your stops...

Not correct. If you are trading using 100:1 leverage, you cannot limit losses to 2%. The spread alone could put you more than 2% down. At normal levels, I agree, leverage doesn't equate to risk, but very high leverage implies a big chunk of the account at risk on each trade.

Right now, stops are about 120-250 pips depending on pair.

If you trade CHF/JPY, the contract size is in CHF(base currency) e.g. 1000CHF for a "microlot". P/L will be in JPY(quote currency).

Gold isn't really useful in that sort of scenario. It's more of a long term store of wealth. If too many people start to keep their cash at home, the government can force them to bring it back to the banks by changing the bank notes. I can't see the point of having more than a few weeks...
