    TonySanDiego TRIES to trade

I concur with Tampa's advice above and perhaps my earlier two cents was just adding to the confusion. I was trying to give you a specific example of fitting your trading to your personality but it looked more like a huckster's "How to Make a Million with Spiders". See if any of this sounds...

    TonySanDiego TRIES to trade

Tony, Please take this in the spirit intended - one new trader trying to help an even newer trader. The SPY's gave probably the easiest trade I've ever had today (10/24). They opened up and looked strong for the first little bit, but then several things caught my attention: 1) We were...

    Trading Plan

Carl, I can't quite tell from your question(s), but: Anti-martingale reduces bet size when you're in a drawdown (percent of equity to risk). Martingale is increasing bet size on the way down - the old "double up till I win again". Martingale is risky and will not work at the...

    TonySanDiego TRIES to trade

Like you, I'm a struggling trader, just been at it slightly longer than you. I've just now come across your journal and have caught up. I've noticed you've been cycling through different entries, exits, position sizing, and vehicles. You also mention several times about leaving a lot on the...

Some help with indentifying these indices (name and symbol)

They look okay for yahoo finance. Just be aware different data vendors list indices differently. For example, the oil service index may be listed as: ^OSX $OSX $OSX.X depending on the vendor.

    easy language question

This checks for the highest x value across range y. For example: Highest(Close,5) would return the highest closing price of the last five bars, inclusive of current bar. Hope this helps.

    P/E of S&P 600

As of Oct 4, median is 15.4 for S&P500 companies with earnings, same as market low on 9/21/01. Don't have a Russell 2000 handy, do have 16.4 on a broad market P/E.

    bars vs candles

Candles are my first choice. Easier to pick up on the patterns. For example I've seen bar charts where the stock is in a steady uptrend. Switch to candles and you quickly see there are too many down candles in that run - perhaps lots of opening gaps or something else to raise a red flag. Just...

A method or indicator you have discarded!

When I first saw point and figure charting, I thought John Madden was now doing trading commentary. I banished it to a corner somewhere. Picked it up again several months ago and a light came on, at least for longer time frames. Bars and candles can show the same thing, but it's a lot simpler...

    TS code for reversal

Unless it's changed recently; 'Buy' and 'Sell' will automatically cover the outstanding short or long position, resp., and enter a new position in the new direction(I've heard it call 'flip the trade'). 'ExitLong' and 'ExitShort' can be used for stops or to go flat. Hope this helps.

    Software and Data Recommendation?

Last time I checked TS6 is a subscription-based product now. You pay by the month. Seems a fair trade-off since now you don't have to mess with data collection. Go to the fee page on their web site. Over to the left there's a "subscription option for non-brokerage clients". I still use...

Prop Groups are PHONIES and full of BS

At our office you could make your own hours, take days off, read the paper. Pretty much anything went as long as you were not bothering other traders or hogging the bandwidth. Of course, the equity markets had a lot to say about your hours - no trade, no dough (or maybe more dough on some...

    OSO Orders

This was asked awhile back and only MyTrack came up.. Does anyone know of a firm that offers the OSO, "order sends order" or "one sends other", order type? I enter positions using a stop. Since I can't watch the market all day I'd like the stop loss order to be executed when the entry...

    Opening order trades

Do a search of Elite for opening orders. Don Bright has two threads which explain it (for the most part). The fair value numbers are slightly different depending on where you look. Here's one - http://www.programtrading.com/buysell.htm

    Home alone vs office

IMO, if your relatively new to intraday then trading from an office for at least two weeks would be well worth it. Early in my start I had the order system go down with me holding a short position. It saved me to find out what to do from the officer manager. I would guess it would take 4-6...

    Home alone vs office

I've traded both in an office environment and now from home. A lot of the advantages and disadvantages (commute/no commute) have been mentioned and are all very valid. My decision to go from office to home was primarily due to: 1) Cut costs. I already had the equipment at home for after hours...

    eSignal 7.0 Japanese Candlestick Problems

I saw the same thing on 5m, 15m and 1hr advanced charts. It looked liked the candle was being "cutoff". I setup a custom time template for 9:30 to 4:30 (30 minutes past NYSE close) and this fixed the problem. Might be different for futures or OTC stocks, anything with night sessions or...

    SEC fee changes

SEC fees were cut in half earlier in the year. With the low volume of the last few months the rates were raised back to where they were. The gov giveth and the gov taketh away.. mostly the latter.
