Just for fun, check out the P/E ratio of TASR...

Bloomberg says P/E is 417 while EPS growth is 215% But I wouldn't blindly trust this data. If I were considering purchase, I'd have done my own research...

    Xle

Looks like time to start accumulating OIH and XLE... I'd add a couple of stronger-than-industry stocks like MRO and VLO to enhance return.

    Oil and Gold ETF"s ???

just in case- DBC- broad commodities tracking index, waiting for SLV- silver ETF

OIH made new higher high on hourly chart today thus confirming the reversal of its short-term-trend to the upside. Long-term trend remains bullish. I think XLE will follow through. Taking into account both ETFs look overbought on the hourly charts, I'd wait for a pullback (say, $2-3 for OIH) and...

Imho the February low I was talking about in the beginning of this thread, is in place for both XLE and OIH (as well as for CL commodity). Looking for new highs...

Imho OIH should at worst hold 125-126 area and then make a base like in October 2005, followed by a Buy signal. I still think low might be made during February (I mentioned the reasons in the post from Feb, 03) but it's still too early to buy from the risk-reward standpoint...

    Broadening Top

Broadening top is relatively rare but powerful reversal formation. Should be accompanied by higher than normal volatility. SPX looks like it now but I'd wait for confirmation (breakdown 1245) before making any intermediate-term forecasts.

Although I live in Russia, not in the USA and our weather this winter is far from mild (-12 C today and this is warm in comparison with January :) ), trading-wise I wouldn't put too much emphasis on weather alone. First, oil (commodity and stocks) is in the long-term uptrend and hence...

    performance fee

Thanks guys for replies Yes I know there is a thing called hurdle rate :) But it is very often a kind of money line like 3-month Libor. I have never met S&P-500 as hurdle rate, that's why I was asking... Regarding prop trading, it's a small misunderstanding here. Under prop trader I meant...

    performance fee

Just would like to ask more experienced people here- is that normal for fund managers and/or prop traders to look for performance fee based on the difference between actual fund/portfolio performance and some chosen benchmark? For example, if I made 12% in 2005 for the portfolio mainly...

    Is this a double top?

If this pattern is accompanied by the negative divergence with MACD, I would bet for reversal and sell short at 141,50 with stop at 142,50

    Japanese bull market over

I think EWJ is a buy in 13,20-13,00 range. Should at least retest 14,30 high in next 5-7 weeks

CAIA designation becoming the standard in the alternative investment world

Thanks a lot for reply. Of course I understand that there is much more useful information in the books than in study notes. But do you mean study notes lack some material that may be needed to pass exam? If so, this is completely different picture and books are just necessary.

CAIA designation becoming the standard in the alternative investment world

Question for those of you guys who have passed CAIA lvl 1 exam. Did you use study notes (Kalmai, Uppermark or others)? If yes, how do you think whether it may be enough to use only study notes without reading the entire reading list? Maybe it depends on previous experience? E.g., I've been in...

Is that it for the stock mkt rally?

I think the bull is over at least for several weeks. Numerous negative divergences have just occured: between NYSE Composite and NYSE A/D line; between the broad market and Broker-Dealer index; finally between major indexes themselves- Dow Jones (say, big guys) failed to confirm new high in SP500...

which sectors will outperform next year ?

Gold (after decent correction, perhaps $30-40), palladium, Japan. Also, I'd follow grains futures but this is for another thread :)

    Refco Futures?

I withdrew about 90% of my assets from them in October but still have relatively large amount of money there. Frankly I'm not going to touch them. As I understand after Man acquired Refco's futures clients can choose the trading platform- either remain with old Refco's or switch to Man's...
