How to track the "smart money"?

What makes you think the average hedge fund is the smart money? Seriously. They don't perform well. Few are respected on Wall Street. Many are guys in their basements selling whatever strategy they can find clients to pay them for. I'm honestly curious what data you have that leads you to...

UK electricity bills to rise by 80% Socialism in Action

Insufficient investment in capacity. The left said they were going to make it difficult for companies in the oil and coal value chain. The right agrees that they have. They are in rare agreement.

Would you trust an online backtesting tool to build strategies ?

lol. Ninja is not going to tell you how this really works the way I did. It's not because they are hiding something. They just don't know/care because efficient order execution is not what their customers want to pay for. You are looking for a source that you feel is reliable so you can...

You are probably also aware that over fitting is your biggest challenge. Ninja Trader is simply doing linear regression. It's like the guy who has a hammer and thinks everything is fixed but hitting it with his hammer. Drawing a straight line through a cloud of data points is important...

Would you trust an online backtesting tool to build strategies ?

It's not your modeling software that is causing that. It's a misunderstanding about what a trade price represents. You don't get to buy or sell at the last trade price. Over a large dataset you will always find the slippage moves against you. For highly liquid stocks the percentage is small...

Would you trust an online backtesting tool to build strategies ?

The page you linked is just indicating that getting orders filled is a whole other challenge. Fills are complex and the place where I spend most of my strategy development and coding time. This isn't a flaw or an accuracy issue at all. It's just how markets work. If you want to buy/sell a...

Would you trust an online backtesting tool to build strategies ?

No, it's not. But context is important. If by hard you mean that learning to code and do math is hard then maybe you are right. I do this stuff for fun as my retirement job. It's way easier and less stressful than the serious engineering work I used to do. So it's all relative. But I get...

Would you trust an online backtesting tool to build strategies ?

No. Who gives away the development of their trading strategies? Keep them on your own computer. Anything that works will be copied.

Intraday vs. EOD with equities: Close price?

Junk debt during a period of rising rates

MAIN, ORCC and FSK don't hold any of that. They hold the debt of mostly small to medium sized private companies. I'm looking for some opinions on how higher interest rates will impact default rates on that sort of debt since it is almost all adjustable.

Junk debt during a period of rising rates

What is your opinion on the overall performance of debt rated BBB- or lower during a period of rising interest rates? I'm thinking about MAIN, ORCC and FSK. On the one hand they have adjustable rate debt. On the other hand they will almost certainly see more of it defaulting. How does it...

UK electricity bills to rise by 80% Socialism in Action

This is not true. They don't have some magic source for energy. Making people pay for it in other ways so they only see a 4% increase on their power bill does not change that.

    AMC/APE Spread Trade

Some small hedge funds are going to blow themselves up on this arbitrage. They'll get in and go too far out on a limb of low liquidity. The apes will take their gambling tokens and crush them once they figure out what is happening. The setup will be right in the SEC form 13F's. A theatre...

    AMC/APE Spread Trade

ok, but that's not the correct measure of the data as it stands now. People are clearly using AMC as a gambling token. If data showing that will change makes itself clear then we should re-evaluate.
