Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

I posted the sources of my definitions. Feel free to post a definition and cite the source that supports your argument... otherwise, I think you might be the one who is picking definitions that suit your purposes (or possibly even fabricating them).

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

...asks the man who only just registered on this forum less than 2 months ago, and doesn't know the difference between trading and gambling. And for the record I've been trading full time since 1998 and have posted only 2 unprofitable years. I would ask you the same question but somehow I...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

With all due respect, that's not how I interpret the definition of "chance." If you look at the definition and read it closely, it states, "the absence of ANY cause of events that can be predicted, understood, or controlled." Therefore, if there are at least SOME aspects of it that can be...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

With all due respect sir, that simply is just not true. You were close though, but if you look in the dictionary you'll clearly see that the definition of gambling is when one places a stake on an event where the outcome is determined by "chance" ... not just that the outcome is unknown in...

    Back up Cable, internet?

It seems to me that unless you trade the ES in 5 lot increments, its going to somewhat inefficient to hedge off your position with the full sized S&P. It might be worth considering using SPY, which is traded on a completely different exchange... and can also be traded electronically.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Well you've clearly demonstrated that you don't understand the meaning of the word gambling... you seem to think the word "gambling" is somehow synonymous with the word "speculation"... if your assertion is that any business transaction where its possible to lose some or all of your money in...

    Back up Cable, internet?

Over the years, I've tried lots of different things including all sorts of dual wan routers. At the end of the day, the most reliable setup I've found for me personally is to use two completely separate computers with completely separate internet connections logged into two completely different...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Well like I said previously, its a free country and you're certainly entitled to believe whatever you want to believe... but just because you believe it doesn't make it so... just like people who believed the world was flat certainly had the right to do so, but it didn't mean it was true. For...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Thats like saying that the casino is gambling just because they don't win every single bet, or that an insurance company is gambling every time they have to pay out an insurance claim. In odds based businesses, you win some and lose some, thats why they're called odds based businesses. Winning...

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Well, then you'd be incorrect. But the beauty of a free society is that you are more than welcome to think whatever you'd like.

Do You Think Trading is Gambling?

Ok, I can't believe this thread keeps popping up and has gone on for 16 pages, because its such a simple answer and anyone who doesn't know the answer immediately, certainly shouldn't be engaging in any odds-based business, particularly trading. The definition of gambling is, "to stake or...

Prop. Firm - Where does the capital come from?

First of all, if you're considering a true legitimate prop firm and not some sub-llc, then most likely they're a registered broker-dealer and they're getting 6:1 leverage from their clearing firm not 4:1 like some normal retail account. Second of all, most prop firms exist because they have...

    Where's the "Change"

Here's what I don't get... after 200 years (probably less but I'm not a political history expert) why are we still limited to a 2 party system? I understand that its better than other governments that have dozens of parties, with a new one getting elected every few terms, thus making it...

Woman lost 3.8 million (everything) with Madoff

Its a sad situation but this is what people get for putting all their money in one place. Money management 101 is never put all your eggs in one basket... so anyone that chose to ignore basic rules kinda gets what they deserve IMHO.
