AMZN upgraded last monday, this monday downgraded. HMMM

It's funny how when analysts predict earnings, they predict earnings excluding any potential one time losses, options expenses, etc. To be objective, why don't they also say excluding one time beneficial tax rate or currency exchange rate changes. Don't hear that much eh? But, when...

    Amzn

The positive: Ironically, it's a good thing that analyst got shorts out early. If not it would've probably gapped 20%.

    Fractional dimension index

Thanks for these replies. I just read something in stocks and commodities that blew my mind about fractal generators. Almost makes elliot waves looks objective. Too bad elliot waves != fractals, although it's followers will eventually try to make the connection.

    GOOG Disappointment Either Way

google response looking suspiciously muted like ebay yesterday. Funny how QQQQ keeps soaring, while reporting components are fizzling.

    YAHOO Earnings Tomorrow (Tuesday)

Is it even possible for them to do bad? The analysts lowered the bar so low (.11c), they'd have to do worse than they did over 9 quarters ago to be below that. The only thing I can picture being bad is the market reaction. Anything worse than .11c would be unbelievably bad.

    thinking about cpi

If you had a half a mind to use a little logic, you'd see that my perception is not that far from your own. One of my points in showing this is that the market participants don't seem to care if the CPI/PPI etc.. are bad, and that they are not driving it inline with the way you would logically...

    thinking about cpi

ok, here's a recap for the cpi and last interpretation by market. Futures were down S&P -4.9 NAS -8.25 DIW -4.1 Nas dropped lower, then had the typical miracle rebound later in the day. This held for a few days... to new high... then the big surprise drop. It could...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the Zimbabwe Industrial Index $$$$

"With annual inflation running at nearly 150%, and with interest rates fixed at well below this level, investors are left with few other choices of where to put their money." Yeah, but if you look at core inflation minus food and gas it was only 1%. :D

    GOOG buys DoubleClick

Google needs a quick boost in ad clicking numbers to keep up with expectations IMHO. What better timing. Write off the acquisition costs and add the clicks.

Look At These Trace Charts Comparing Now and 1966

As mentioned earlier, self similarity abounds all over the place in indexes. However, past is no guarantee of future: thus the nature of 'similar'. There are many patterns that look identical over history, then completely diverge. So far the general shape similarity is loosely tracking.

    Great day again

all the consumer confidence indexes dropped. PPI up sharply (but only if you include gas and food... who needs that?). FED utters some words about economy isn't slowing. Gee doesn't that further corroborate inflation on rise? All great news says the timed market surge.

    Great day again

I tend to agree with makloda here. Markets do not follow news, (I think they follow opposite of net retail client order flow, personally). Just look at last PPI interpretation -- a huge jump over expectations in inflation -- how did markets react?

    2pm Minutes

inflation growing + economy slowing + consumer confidence tanked 2X in row + death of double digit gains after 4.5 years + market making new 4 yr highs + steepening yield curve inversion great combo = more upside 100%!!! The fed actually acknowledged inflation growing and economy...

    AA beats, nothing new.
