some of the Market Wizards are taking hits.

Don't know the results in #s, but I seem to recall that O'Neill took out a full-page ad in IBD touting the end of the bear market and the commencement of the "new bull" - around nine or so months ago... Of course, they weren't the only ones to take one or another updraft as a sign of clear...

Profitable Strategies being impacted by the #'s using them.

Nice post - I think the excerpt may sum up the basis of technical trading, esp. the "Western" style since at least the time of Dow and Kerr, and as extended by Schabacker/Edwards/Magee - even if the biggest players or groups of players need to define their niche differently. People get...

    Best and Worst CNBC Commercials

Yeah, I mentioned it - one of my all time favorites... glad to know someone else remembers it! Welcome to the world of daytrading, my man! Good thing to say to yourself in the middle of one of those grass-growing narrow-range Summer-type sessions...

    A no-brainer day!

Thanks to all of you who offered supportive comments. Things did go a lot better today: A very fine long off the gap down (ADBE), a not bad short on the subsequent downswing (BRCM), some slightly iffy Qs scalping, not much more otherwise except for an all-day-sucker that refused to break...

    A no-brainer day!

Was unbelievably stupid today. Fell into the classic "s/r trader gets killed on trend day" trap. First, I had software problems (typical sign of an easy money trend day - software or internet always gets hinky when there's something mega-tradable going on, no? - but I missed it...), which...

    TS6 Downtime

I've occasionally had to switch to 56k (actually somewhat less) when having DSL problems: The results were better than I expected, though things seemed slower - quotes dragging themselves on to L2, etc. - but that's just a subjective impression, based on a handful of observations, and the...

    TS6 Downtime

Are you sure it's RAM and not memory allocation? If you're not using WIN2k Pro or (I believe) Windows XP, then more RAM won't help much. WIN 98 especially is very inefficient.

    TS6 Downtime

FX - I was on TS6 all day today, from before the open until the close, and had no such problems. Did you call them up and inquire about any connection problems?

    TS6 Downtime

lippi, I believe you're misinformed (and spreading misinformation): In short, TS6 does not disconnect for me when I leave it unattended. If TS6 is disconnecting for you, it may have to do with your Internet Service Provider or other aspects of your connection. Instability in your...

    TradeStation Securities announces new commissions

Dereksas, Yeah, that about covers it - though if you set up whatever signals to trigger whatever "heap" and hit "ignore" when the confirmation windows come up, the orders will line up in the account manager, and can be executed from there. I don't trade that way, but it's an alternative...

    Best and Worst CNBC Commercials

The confused EMTs and the guy who doesn't understand why they're so interested in him - they leave - and then the chainsaw-wielding monkey comes screaming out of the bushes... Wasn't that SYNC is everything? That company still exist? Someone ripped off essentially the same idea for the...

Left out probably the best, most memorable line from the Welcome to the World of Daytrading ad... I think it was: "I just made twelve dollars like it was nothing."

    Best and Worst CNBC Commercials

Welcome to the world of daytrading, my man... I am destroyed! No, wait, I'm back... ... How could you have forgotten that one, y'all? Glad to see that so many of you hate that Fidelity ad... that ugly condescending laugh from the wife "I can't believe he said that," that stupid...

    EL Code For Street Smarts

I learned a lot from the STREET SMARTS add-on disk that TradingMarkets.com sells... http://www.tradingmarkets.com/galleria.site/software/main/products.cfm?full=1&id=5043 For my purposes, the disk was worth the price just as an intermediate EasyLanguage tutorial. The testing that I...

    TradeStation Securities announces new commissions

"Is it possible to write heaps of orders (and not transmit them) using Tradestation?" Yes - though "heaps" might be stretching it - but it's nowhere near as easy as it should be. I suspect that most new users will find it impossible in the current set-up. The next major upgrade should...

    EasyLanguage Question

    1. TRIPACK's solution points to one of the other alternatives, esp. if you're not focusing strictly on stocks... 2. The canned IDHIGH and IDLOW functions that come with TS6 are also stock-oriented functions - the IDHIGH goes like this: vars:htoday(0); htoday=htoday[1]; if...

    EasyLanguage Question

Though there are other ways to incorporate data from diverse time frames in a single signal or analysis technique, the simplest way that I can think of to determine the current day's range is simply to flag the first bar's high and low. For equities, a typical technique would run like this...

    Large Blocks over the ASK

sorry for the unclarity. this was explained to me a long time ago, so you'll have to excuse me if I get a little fuzzy. Basically, the import was that under normal conditions, a majority of large outside-the-market orders will get processed in the last few minutes of any given hour during...

    Large Blocks over the ASK

I've also been given to understand that such very large outside-the-market transactions are given preference near the end of the hour.
