    Jeff R.'s Trading

Good luck to you. Be aware that shorting micro-cap momentum stocks is a high probability/high risk strategy. Most of your trades will net you decent gains, but once in a while you'll short a stock that isn't done spiking, and you'll be sitting on a huge loss if you're not careful.

This is the last move for Crude --shaping up just like the wheat trade!

Speaking of DCR, are you aware that the NAV of that fund is currently $0.00? Looks like their swap position has wiped out all their assets. And yet you paid $3 for it...

    What are island's ECN fees?

My broker is quoting me this for island ecn fees: .003 remove liquidity -.002 add liquidity But when I look on IB's website, they have .003 remove liquidity -.0025 add liquidity Anyone know which is the correct rate?

    Quitting Trading

This isn't going to be what you want to hear, but you almost certainly will never become profitable as long as you keep trying to trade the futures. Basic technical analysis without any other edge is not a viable strategy on such a competitive contract like the the equity futures. Look at the...

    IB New TWS

I wish IB would stop updating TWS and rollout the new futuretrade platform they've been promising.

    Iterative Refinement

So after browsing this thread I've seen a bunch of charts and lines and triangles. But where are the actual trades? Is anybody actually implementing this stuff in real life?

Why I'm not going to get licenced post-Tuco:

I believe you must pay social security and medicare taxes on k-1 income. If you are retail and qualify to be a trader in securities, your income is exempt from these taxes.

    FDIC 'Watchlist' or 'Red List'

The fdic intentionally does not release the list to prevent a run on those individual banks. If you have any concerns about your local bank, go to fdic.gov and look up their financial data and capital ratios.

Will IB ever offer a true pegged order type?

IB doesn't offer full ECN functionality for reasons I can't understand.

Losing motivation - the daily grind

How much are you earning now relative to when you were feeling better? Are you happy with your trading results? Several times in the past I've felt the same way about trading. In retrospect it was merely my disappointment on my trading results, and once my p/l starting moving higher again...

Buying a ROUTE - ideas, info, advice

I wouldn't trust those profit numbers posted on the website. Some routes are being priced at 2x yearly profit, which imo is too good to be true. 5x is more reasonable. I would insist on seeing full financial documentation for at least the past 3 years before doing anything. And don't forget that...

should I rent my house out

Don't bother unless you are desperate for the money. Renting out a single home is more trouble than its worth as you turn into a landlord who has to fix everything that goes wrong. Collecting payment is no guarantee either, especially with those credit scores. And if they ever stop paying, it...

    Tax for Forex Trades

I post my cash forex trade total in a separate line on form 6781, with the text "cash forex elected out of IRC 988, see attached spreadsheet for individual trades." I then attach a spreadsheet that lists all my cash forex trades in the same format as that of the schedule D.

Will lowering your taxes this way work???

Any financial transaction with the sole purpose of lowering taxes is deemed illegal by the IRS. So what you are proposing, and yes, every trader has thought of it at some point, is not legal. Could you get away with it? Sure, but with that attitude you might as well just lie on your taxes and...

    Tuco not an anomaly

I know thats the line that tuco management is feeding out to, but have you actually seen the bank statements proving that the money is there? Otherwise, I'd tend to believe the SEC.

    IB Forex Tax Question

I'm not a tax expert, but this is what I'm doing on my taxes. 1. cash forex transactions don't show up anywhere on IB's tax forms and they are not reported in any way to the IRS 2. I enter my gains/losses on Form 6781 Part I to gain 60/40 tax treatment. But I don't lump it with my normal...

Did Bear Stearns execs really get bonuses?

Its misinformed comments like these that make me cautious about Jim Roger's other predictions, no matter how correct they have been. He just doesn't seem to understand that its customary for banking bonuses above a few hundred thousand to be paid almost entirely(90%+) in stock options. These...

    Hedging my dollar denominated assets?

I find currency ETFs to be a poor hedging vehicle. There is the 0.4% expense ratio, the wide bid/ask ratio to move any size, and the prohibitive margin requirements. ETfs are priced as stocks, so you'd have to put up the entire amount in cash, unless you want to use margin, in which case the...
