Nice trading on the Encana calls, Rob! I wish you continued success. Regarding the CAD/USD trading, please be careful on going by that info I posted earlier... Things are not lining up quite as easily for the Canadian $. The commercial traders are heavily short and they just added more...

No problem... i'm not really familiar with ECA. For an oil-related stock, I've been watching RIG for a while. That might be the one I'll consider putting a position on. Good Trading.

Got the info on the ECA Canada version of the calls, Rob... Just to add wrt Canada and Oil: I recently signed-up with XpressTrade (may dabble in some mini-futs and mini-FX), and they have this headline trading ideas (2 of them) contemplating the possibility of Oil hitting 100/barrel...

Thanks, Rob. Congrats on your ECA! it went up quite a bit, today. hope it continues going up. oil is hitting new highs and ECA is gonna benefit from that, i think. I wish you the best. i know you meant sept 45 calls :) i'm actually too heavily-positioned on the "long" side of the...

Thanks... i just cannot do anymore high-risk/high-return plays for a while... i've been there... it seems you pick one way and it goes the other way. sometimes you pick several of them, and they all go against you (or most of them). for those times, there's just nothing we can do. maybe...

1st question: yes... if the only reason for the puts was pure "insurance". i'd have probably picked spy puts, though. the position is based on (my) market view (short-term) and the underlying's fundamentals. if (when) i change my opinion on either one significantly, i'd probably close...

update for the week ending 8/19/2005: loss of about $2200 (comm included in the figure). basically, the loss came from the high-risk play on options expiration week. no high-risk plays for a while. not until the loss has been recovered if it happens at all. current positions...

actually, i didn't know that there was that little difference :) i mentioned in my previous post that i only like to risk less than $3K per position and the lower the better. when i had the position before, it only cost me 2035, so i was happy and plusthere was no difference in my mind...

nice entries (on both the Feb and the Aug)! congrats. i trade the underlying directionally and use the options for leverage. the slightly otm's still have enough delta when combined as a whole position. the price - i'm only willing to put a risk-capital of no more than $3K per position...

    Writing options for a living

i would try to argue in a philosphical sense: insurance premiums are based on statistics (i.e. the number of deaths per millions for such age, smoking-habits, etc.) and are allowed to be positive EV by the insurance market. because of barriers to entry, not everyone and their mother can be...

comments: looking to re-enter the NFLX Dec 22.5 calls here... unable to pull the trigger as that would put me heavily on the long side. maybe when i'm more bullish on the markets. i still have my amzn puts just in case i'm wrong on the market-direction...

mini-update 8/18/2005: put a call-position on VPHM: Feb 06 VPHM 17.5 calls - wow! it's so rare that maybe it only happened to me once before... i got filled at the bid. i was trying to nickel and dime it and put a bid in the middle of the spread, but when i finally change the order, my...

Thanks, Chagi. Appreciate your inputs. there were only a few times that adding to a losing position have worked for me. maybe 2 or 3 and definitely less than 5. but looking back yesterday, i'd do it again. because of experience, i knew that for many reasons, adding to a losing position is...

well, there goes the high-risk play for a while... no more risky plays until the lost capital has been recovered from other plays (if it happens at all). this is gonna put a dent. current quote .20 x .30 Peace.

yup... tough position i'm seeing right now. it looks like the stock has stabilized and found some support. i could more than double up for less than 1/4 the price of the original position. probably gonna do it.

Thanks, Rob! exciting, yes... but when things don't work out, it's kind of a downer :) . in the hole over 1200 so far. leverage works both ways. it's tempting to add, but i won't. gotta stick to the plan. it was a high-risk and high-reward play and i won't try to dig myself deeper even...
