update for the week ending 8/5/2005: i knew it was a good week for me compared to last friday's end-of-day mark-to-market values of my account, but i didn't realize how good. i'm up ~$1700 from last friday's closing prices. position updates (bid prices used): DWA Dec 30 calls - still...

i'm glad i didn't put-on the position. i would have been so p*ssed-off right now, i might break my computer monitor :D when i was looking at this, quote was 1.70 x 1.95. i could have gotten it at 1.95 (my usual size is 15 contracts) in the morning as the stock didn't gap-up or anything...

BIDU - when will there be options on it?

got it. sorry, you're right it didn't open at the IPO price. it gapped up. timing is the key on these guys. we have to keep looking at the news and fundamentals if there's significant shifts that could change the direction of the momentum/sentiment. options/puts would be nice when they...

BIDU - when will there be options on it?

you meant to say up over $100, right? :) it's up several hundred percent for day, currently. a high price vs fundamentals is not enough to short. timing is key. look at goog. and kkd took a very long time before it imploded. good luck.

got it. thanks! the straddle was "cheaper". i was focused on the underlying and couldn't really see the expected move to justify either position. Good Trading

just to clarify... ebay reported after yhoo and qcom. :)

    Writing options for a living

:D there were some recent examples of "behaviour after earnings" from companies such as yhoo, but ebay has a lot of shares 1.3B and it could do a small move like what qcom did which may not be enough to overcome the premiums and IV cost of pre-earnings... jmo

you're buying? or selling? pretty hard trade. i wouldn't have done anything, but ebay was a missed opportunity for me after earnings, so i'm a little familiar with this situation. no straddle/strangle buying/selling for me before earnings, but i had a directional opinion on ebay (which I...

    Advice from opton traders

i forgot to add... many times, there is no opportunity. the impact of the earnings and guidance is not enough to pick a direction that the stock hasn't already reflected by its current price. don't force it by having a personal bias. and your market opinion for the 2-3 weeks matters, too...

    Advice from opton traders

is there a third, yet? coz i'll 4th this :D i also paper-traded straddles earnings and it lost moneyl. very recent example would have been goog. if you had bought a straddle prior to the latest earnings, you'd have lost money - big money. i think where you can make money is where you...

nothing done. volume on the stock is too low for my taste. options are not very liquid (hence the big spread). as soon as the position is initiated, it's already down almost 15%. maybe later but for now, i got enough on my plate. current quote 1.95 x 2.20 Good Luck.

looking to enter a position on DRYS tomorrow 8/4/2005. DRYS Dec 15 calls (DQRLC) - current 1.70 x 1.95 unattractive spread, but i'll put a bid on 1.80 i really have enough position now (25% of my account) and shouldn't look at this, but it looks very good for a target of 19/share...

position update (entered a position today 8/3/2005): NFLX Dec 22.5 Calls - Reasoning: nice earnings results (previously announced quarter), good balance sheet (imo), good stock price-action (uptrend), and of course, my market opinion of a bull-market in the short term. price target for...

mini-update for 8/1/2005: vphm aug 10 calls - closed out for a profit of ~$1275 this morning as planned. it wasn't the best-executed exit trade, as i sold at very near the low of the day for the options (not the stock). it was stuck at a price this morning and just decided that before going...

update for week ending 7/29... i guess i can't complain. from last friday, i'm up about $200 over all. if i just didn't put a gamble play on goog, i could have been up a lot more. oh well... gotta be consistent on being extremely selective. there's too many disadvantages to being an...

that would be cool... there's lots of money to be made as goog has a long way to go. i don't see the beginning of a crash on goog, yet, but i'm ready to put a long-term put position on them when i do. Good Luck.

Way to go! Speaking from experience (and not necessarily something I follow as shown by my recent goog gamble play), when running good, you don't want to start becoming complacent. You have to be just as vigilant about being selective about each and every potential option trade... Beginner's...

With apologies to joecgoodman... Not trying to be condescending, but I'll just say this, these guys (riskarb and maverick) are so advanced in options. I'm not gonna add-on that subject. I once tried to discuss the whole covered-call, naked-puts with a coworker and never got anywhere. It...

    not the same risk-reward position. aug 19 , ebay at 45, scenario 2 has $300 + $30 appreciation, scenario 1 keeps $35.

Cool. Glad to know there's Chagi and WOg and others who see there's a place in the markets for being long options to leverage one's idea about a direction on the underlying. I think you mentioned the best weapon that we can have to overcome the disadvantages inherent in being long options -...
