looking for advice - insurance fixed income analyst

Hey all, not sure what thread this should be under so please move if I'm in the wrong spot. I was wondering if anyone out there works in fixed income/interest rate risk analysis in the insurance industry. I was a former energy trader/scheduler and am certified in general securities...

Lost Generation, wow sucks to be young today.

Agreed, I'm 33 and am interviewing for a fixed income analyst job next week... my wife who religiously watches teen mom and jersey shore and real housewives, yadayada doesn't have a clue that the real world is coming apart at the seams (sadly "real world whatever city" on the must view list)...

Lost Generation, wow sucks to be young today.

Agreed, best post in a long time! All these doe-eyed politically correct assholes wanted to feel good and tell their kids "I voted for the first black president"... and sadly enough, a lot of people for some unthinkable reason actually believed that "change" was going to happen this time...

Potentially the largest trade in all of history is in the making

No offense, but T=0 brings about a few more losers than just some hedge funds and CB's... http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/data-chart-center/tic/Documents/mfh.txt As stated above, end result: US = 0 (may already be there but not on paper)

The weekly: Greece to default/restructure THIS weekend? thread

You're mis-reading the quote. $5286 is in thousands and the underlying value to insure is 10 million. So right now it would cost roughly 5.3 mil to insure 10 mil of Greek debt for 5 years.

    My Journal

I like this journal, the format is great - short but informative  Having recently moved from the west coast I feel your pain. I traded mainly 6E b/c like you say, most of the indices seem to grind along too slowly outside RTH. Anyway, best of luck JO

The weekly: Greece to default/restructure THIS weekend? thread

And getting worse!! CDS Spreads out to 7234... up nearly 53% Thankfully our ECB neighbors are such kind-hearted folk and we can take solace in the fact that soc-gen won't be allowed to be Lehman-Europe

Yep, bloomberg confirmed and CDS are exploding... http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/quote?ticker=GGGB1YR:IND http://www.cnbc.com/id/38451750 I like trading 6E but I might just hang out for awhile and see what shakes out... I liked JPM in the low 30's but now I may hope for 16-20 and just...

Obama to address nation at 9 p.m. Eastern as stalemate on debt talks continues

Agreed, a failure in pretty much every endeavor. Watching his testimony to the senate banking committee is classic viewing though! Got me through a few slow days when I needed a chuckle :D Unfortunately I wouldn't let him pick a mutual fund for me, let alone make him my head fiscal policy...

Obama to address nation at 9 p.m. Eastern as stalemate on debt talks continues

Haha, and the poor Obama children who won't have the social programs I'm sure they'll so sorely need.... Dems are reeling right now, agreed with Stock777, I could smell the "eau de desperation and defeat"...all around weak, sadly close to begging

Obama to address nation at 9 p.m. Eastern as stalemate on debt talks continues

+1111111 Hello American public... welcome to buyers remorse! The poor joes that bought into the ridiculous "Change" mantra must be just wounded inside. At least the Boehner v Obama battle is getting good and heated up. Props to John B. for standing up like a man instead of crying like...

    NG Equities and Funds

And I'm way too many gins in b/c I see you're asking about UNG. Principle is the same but you own shares of a fund that has to be long NG and track the forward contract as close as possible. As an example, Aug11 is paying +0.29 over Sept11 so if you were to purchase UNG right now, you get a...

    NG Equities and Funds

ahhh glad to chip on a saturday night! Unfortunately I was talking futures spreads not equities. Check out CME/CBOT/NYMEX and they will explain their daytrade and overnight margins along with spread positions. Here's the link if you're interested...

    NG Equities and Funds

Yep, margins on futures spreads are always lower than an outright position. You need to think in relative terms - IE will a near month increase/decrease RELATIVE to an out month contract. That spread will allow you some directional bias with risk management but maybe talk to Bone about...

    NG Equities and Funds

Haha! I don't don't know if you play hearts but I just sluffed the bitch off on my drunken buddy and he's not happy! Depends what you're looking for though. I trade options and sock any profits into solid dividend paying stocks (like SE). Utilities, Telcos, REITS can be great IMHO, picked...

    NG Equities and Funds

If you're long (please don't tell me UNG!!) I think you're ok, but depends what instrument you're using to play it. Avoid anything that costs you contract roll. I'm looking at Encana (ECA) at a possible buy, but not right now - maybe around the 27.50-28.00 mark. My preference would be...
