    Options newbie needs some help...

You got it all backwards: options are primarily used to control risk, not to increase it by way of leverage.

Wipro Says New GM Deals Worth Only $27M SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters)—Wipro Ltd. said on Friday that a 5-year computer services deal with General Motors Corp. was far less than the $300 million reported a day earlier. Wipro was the only Indian company to be awarded work in the latest GM...

Nassim Taleb makes the rounds again

That would be unfair to Mr. Taleb if only because the combine value of accounts that I manage is orders of magnitude smaller than his. Somehow Nassim Talib's scare mongering reminds me that of a sleazy televangelist's crowing about the Rapture to scare up some change from senior citizens...

Nassim Taleb makes the rounds again

DS: How is it going for [Nassim Taleb's] Empirica [Capital] so far? NT: "Well, distributions seem to have fatter tails than ever before. We had this year in the equity markets an extremely volatile three-month period (February through April), followed by an extremely unvolatile three months...

Will the S&P hit 1300 in February?

Ditto. That said, the chart looks a bit ovextended, and ready to pull back into the 1220-1240 area.

Buying options - yes, selling them to make profit after roundtrip commissions as high as $23.48 per contract  - not likely.

    Gooooooogle

I expect GOOG to close above 400 tomorrow. I will be selling Feb 430 calls. I do not believe they can put Humpty Dumpty back on the wall before the expiry.

    India's Economy

Based on my experience dealing with engineers from India, and interviewing quite a few Indian engineers on the phone, I would say that India's economic potential is overhyped as was NASDAQ in Q1 of 2000. It is no accident that India is a third-world country, and will remain so in the...

    Stupid Stupid Stupid!!!!!

I made a similar mistake. I overrode my system that uses closing prices to generate signals, and closed my position in the morning because I thought the close would not be much higher, and probably lower, than the open. I made money, but I would have made 1% more if I followed the system.

Impeachment hearings: The White House prepares for the worst

Impeachment is a political matter, not a legal one. I dare congressional Democrats to start impeachment proceedings against Bush for monitoring the fifth column's electronic communications. :p

    GOOG Call Spread

I would leg into a bull spread because I think the market is going going up. You should close the position because you have no exit strategy.

Brazil the New Emerging Global Power

I recall the late 80's when Japan was the New Emerging Global Powers destined to leave the U.S. in the dust. In the 90's, the role of the NEGP was bestowed by U.S.-hating upon the European Union. Where are these now? Here's my prediction: BRIC's will be bricks, and the U.S., unless it...

Google To Sell HW w/ their own OS

I already dumped Outlook e-Mail and Contacts in favor of Gmail, and am looking forward to Google's implementing a decent calendar/task list feature. It is much more convenient to keep information online, and be able to access it from any system capable of running a Web browser. A simple...
