    Was it a Maxtor? :)

    Dell 2005FPW or 2001FP

I would personally go with the 2001FP but my decision would depend on who I am buying it from, how I am going to configure my stand, etc. I don't particularly like the Widescreen format for a trading machine. The resolution is usually more inferior. It depends on what you prefer and what you...

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

I certainly understand that on thin stocks or on news. The same happens with thin futures like YM, FDAX, etc. However, you can get caught in a trade but one can hardly get "stuck" to the extent that they are given back in one day or one move what they have made for the entire month. This is the...

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

Something doesn't add up here. I'm a professional trader and I understand how the market moves. I know that you are trading equities while I trade futures (I used to trade NAS equities as well). However, it would seem to me like you are trading too big and cutting winners short and majorly...

    Trading with Market Profile

I never understand these kinds of comments (porgie's) about trading. What is the definition of a "crutch" in trading? Are lagging indicators a "crutch"? How about patterns? "Crutch" too?

Giving Up on Prop - What Next?

It just blows my mind that you will make $500 - $1000 (net, I assume) for 20 days to give it all back in one day!!!!!!!!!!! Where is your risk control? Do you scalp or swing trade?

    Uranium and Coal

I agree about CCJ. I prefer to own CCO on the TSX (preference for Canadian currency exposure). I watch it every day on the 60 min to see if there are any signs of reversals. It finally broke the last high but it still hasn't set up yet. I don't really pay attention to P/E. Most uraniums don't...

    Uranium and Coal

My trailing stop got hit on Cameco. Cameco paid very well, but there are much smaller stocks that are making enormous strides. The ones I'm holding currently are (all Canadian tickers) PNP, DJE, TUE, ASX, SXR, PXP, DEN, LAM, FRG (also a NYSE stock) and a few other small ones. I am holding MNV on...

    Uranium and Coal

I am heavily invested in uranium from back when it was selling for $9.50/lb on the spot market. It has been the best investment I have ever made. I'm still long mostly Canadian stocks and a couple of Australian. The downside and the pullbacks have been very shallow.

Very interesting perspective, Contango. A well written post.

    How successful are prop traders?

If he is talking about being enabled to trade a certain number of contracts or shares in a year that would have a market value of $15MM, then yes it is possible. What is possible, however, is not always what comes to pass. His performance will determine how much or how little he is allowed to...

Traders in Virginia *if there are any besides me* :P

Thanks. That is very kind. Yeah, I moved to Fairfax last March. Quite an adjustment from living of Michigan Ave in Chicago. It has been a crazy year. I'm up for a meeting over the weekend or weekday. It just has to be outside of trading hours.

    How Much to invest Analysis

A very important consideration would be how liquid the stock is and how many shares it trades every day. If you are taking 6,700 shares of a stock that trades 20k daily, then you might consider that it will go to $0.0001 per share before you get filled on your stop. It is not wise to use stops...

What The Bleep Do We Know?

The best part, I thought, was a study that I had read about prior to the movie regarding the effect of emotional states on water. The picture of the water at various states is incredible considering how much water we are made of. Incredible stuff.

What The Bleep Do We Know?

Great movie. Many will call it something negative, but not everyone is ready for various ways of seeing things. This movie only scratches the surface.
