    I made a mistake today <gulp>

No sweat, GeeTO. Sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch. Hey...was the book recommendation for me or for you? :) And as for you other lads... ...just ordered a copy of 'The Master Swing Trader'. Thanks. And you're right; most everybody here is pretty cool cause we're...

    I made a mistake today <gulp>

I made a newbie mistake today. Even though I have had a lot of experience trading, most of it has been in stock index futures, and about half of that on the floor. But now that I'm a little older, swing trading individual stocks seems more my speed; but it is, of course, a LOT different than...

    IB improvements

I see that some others have posted suggestions about dealing with the ToolBar in TWS. I, too, think it is more of a distraction than a help. I suggest putting an option in the View menu (or the Settings menu) to "Disable Tool Bar". Perhaps you could also add some code so that, if ToolBar...

    Relative Order Cancellations

If you "<knew> this industry forwards and backwards" then you would know all about IB...right? What firm are you pitchin'? saxon

    Relative Order Cancellations

Not a connection issue, since I am on a cable modem. It's been down maybe twice in the last 6 months. I'd be too nervous to even logon to TWS if I was using AOL dial-up, or something like that. This game is hard enough as it is! But hats off to guys who have no other option. Brave souls...

    Relative Order Cancellations

I tried using "relative orders" for the first time this morning; and while it worked pretty well for me, there was one strange thing that I should alert you all to. When I modified or cancelled a relative order, the "pending cancellation" bar (magenta) just sat there for almost an hour in two...

    IB and Odd Lots

Yeah, I guess there are a couple of different ways to arrive at an odd-lot total. And as Seth suggested, if I want 56 shares, I could just buy 156 and sell 100. No one could reject either side of that trade (since both are above 100). You guys are smart! :D

    IB and Odd Lots

Hmm...I found an NYSE listed stock I wanted to include in my portfolio, but it's trading at 103, so I guess I'll just have to let it go. A minimum purchase of $10,300 is kind of high...especially when you are talking about a portfolio of 10 or 12 stocks. I don't understand why IB disallows...

    Even lots (100's) or not?

Nice board here. Thanks for the advice. Got my trades off without shooting myself in the foot! All within a few cents of the open. I decided to trade even lots...even though I am a once-a-week basket trader. Yeah...200 or 212.....doesn't really make much difference to me in terms of my...

    Even lots (100's) or not?

Got a quick question before I enter my first IB trades tomorrow. I want to buy 10 different stocks, dividing my capital 10% in each; but that works out to order sizes like 212 shares, 378, 443, etc. My question is this: Do you think I would be better off in the long run to enter BEST...

    Is IB system down?

Thanks for the info. I suppose Saturday is better used for other things anyway. :) saxon

    Is IB system down?

I am a new IB customer, and I am wondering if my problem with logging in is normal or not. It is Saturday, and the markets are closed, I know. But I would have thought that I could still login to TWS to set up orders, check balance, etc. When I open TWS, enter my user name and pw, and hit...
