IB: slow order entry today...anybody else?

Re NASDAQ routing: With superSOES there is now no reason to ever route SelectNET. The MM do not have to honor SelectNet (is my understanding), while they do have to honor superSOES. That being said, I still strongly recommend routing to ISLD given the super fast fills and very good liquidity.

IB: slow order entry today...anybody else?

NYSE limit orders took much longer to go green this morning than what I've usually seen.

    TV as a monitor

If you want to use the TV as a monitor you will need a video card with TV Out feature. Both ATI AllInwonder and NVidea are good choices. ATI has long been the leader in TVOut, however, Cards like the ATI AllInWonder also come with TV Tuner, so that you can route all your TV signals through...

If you're an engineer, consider joining the IEEE. They have very good group insurance.

    motherboard

VIA chipsets have had lots of reported problems lately. They don't seem to perform well under stress. I'd stay away from them.

    Monitor interference

if you have spare video cables, you should try switching cables. I doubt that the monitors (if they are less than a few years old) would interfere with each others. There are stong federal regulations on radiation. It's much more likely an electrical problem. One more thought: how about...

    17/18 inch LCD with DVI

I'm looking to get a 2nd LCD. In particular I'm looking for a 17" or 18" LCD with DVI (digital interface). I really like my 15" ViewSonic VP151, but ViewSonic do not appear to make an equivalent 17 or 18 inch. Any recommendations ? thanks !

    Fighting the unwinable fight.....?

I suspect that many individuals are raising cash. What is often overlooked is that when the market is closed (like last week), you cannot sell and hence, cannot get your money. Some brokers even didn't allow you to withdraw Money market funds, since they actually are in a bond-backed. Despite...

i've tried everything and nothing works

dg2000: Trading is difficult. I suggest that you do the following 1. get a program such as MetaStock or TradeStation. Code what you want to try. If you cannot make your system produce a profit on paper, it will definitely not work in real time. 2. understand that trading is a "game of...

    Elliott Wave theory?

The "bible" on Elliot wave theory is: "Elliott Wave Principle : Key to Market Behavior" by Robert R. Prechter Jr., A. J. Frost amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0932750435/qid=1000230252/sr=2-1/ref=aps_sr_b_1_1/102-0823592-4106521 That being said: I never found Elliott wave...

    Tradingmarkets.com

I agree with your observations. Until about 6 months ago it was very vibrant. Lots of good lessons and tutorials by pro's with proven track records (Borsellino, Boucher, Mader etc). Now it's mostly people with "after the fact" analysis and very few insightful lessons. As an example, the...

    IB improvements

I truly hope IB will provide a programatic interface to order entry that is more affordable that the current CTCI model. In particular, if IB allowed the API to run concurrently with TWS, so that we could use TWS's account manger, IB would have the best order entry system on the market.

    Onsite Trading

WarEagle, It's imperative that you keep commisions low initially. I strongly recommend a per-share commision schedule, such as IB, Echo and others. I found it fairly difficult to gain enough confidence to consistiently pull the trigger. With $20 commisions it's going to be virtually...

    Plasma 42" vs multi monitor

That would be great. I was under the impression that plasma displays were extremely expensive, i.e. > $5k. I have only seen plasma displays used in place of TV sets and didn't realize that they now are being offered as monitors as well. It's probably worth making sure what type of digital...

    Eye Strain from Trading

I have two monitors: a 21" in Sony CRT and a 15" Viewsonic LCD. The LCD is significantly better for the eyes (no flicker, better contrast, digital connection so super crisp at high frequencies). Even running the CRT at 80 Hz is no match for the LCD. The LCD is so much better, that I'm...

    IB: The Party Is Over

If high leverage is what you crave, you can either go pro, or just trade futures. You'll get 10:1 in either case. Actually, I propose that IB allows 4:1 day trading margin and 2:1 for overnights. That would give most of us what we're asking for, and reduce the overnight risks for them (and...

    Bright Keeping Traders Money

For pure day traders, you don't get charged margin interest, I agree. Many pro traders also do extensive arbitrage and pairs trading, with positions lasting several days. In that case margin interest becomes a revenue stream. The "haircut" thead gives good examples of how this is calculated...

Is undercapitalization a good reason to use a professional firm?

It's not obvious that a strategy that works acceptably with 2:1 leverage can be traded at 10:1. Let's say that the 2:1 account has a drawdown of 5k, that would give the 10:1 account a drawdown of 25k. You may now be under the LLC mininum account balance and be shut down. Leverage works both ways.

Is undercapitalization a good reason to use a professional firm?

Cdntrader: You have to remember that there is no free lunch. You will have to put up a deposit with the firm in order to trade. Gains and Losses are added and subtracted to your deposit daily, weekly or monthly. Let's say you've put up the mininum 25k. Some pro firm will not let your...

Response to IB TWS survey email

I hope that IB stay focused on what they do so well: a rock solid order entry and position management platform. Level II, Charts, Scanners etc. is readily available from multiple different sources at low cost (< $100/mo). IB software is infinitely more stable than e.g. CyberTrader (in my...
