    A Datek's Deception??

a friend of mine has had the worst time closing out her Datek account. Took several weeks to get them to issue the check. She later received 25 cents in MM income, Datek then charged $15 maintenance fee \. After several months she is still "fighting" them over $15 fees, getting the account...

    IB improvements

I would just like to second tntneo's request for an order entry api capability in TWS. TWS already supports basket trading, where the trading commands are stored in an ASCII file. The format is very simple. How about adding a port to TWS accepting the same commands from outside software...

Is IB Order Cancel really slow?

I have never had order cancels take more than a few seconds. One suggestion: check to see if your error log contains any error messages. It's at c:\jts\log.txt. One time where I felt TWS behaving incorrectly, I found exceptions in the log file. IB acknowledged and released a fix within 24...

    Order Entry API

The best I've found is at www.macros.com I haven't hooked it up to TWS, so I don't know if you can accomplish what you're asking. The biggest issue I encountered is that TWS adds order lines as you create new orders. That makes it a bit difficult to issue multiple orders since the relative...

    RAM upgrade -> Memory warning

Often Win98 will complain about being out of memory, while it's really out of "resources". Windows 98 unfortunately uses fixed-size resource tables independent of system memory, so it's possible to run out of resource handles even if you have lots of free memory. The only solution is to move...

    Order Entry API

Buttermilk: Re the IB CTCI. It's obviously too expensive. IB has announced on the board via def that they are working on an inexpensive internet based trading api. I've contacted the support at IB and in general they don't know anything about it. It's clear, however, that TWS has virtually...

    Total monthly cost up-front $$$

Hitman is right. Another way to look at it: Even at a $1000/months in fixed expenses, that's only $50 per day. If you can't clear $50 you're probably not profitable enough to live off of it. Personally, I have never understood why anyone would go cheap on computers, quote feeds, software an...

    Esignal users.....

I agree: eSignal is rock solid on win2000. Used it both stand-alone, with MetaStockPRO and with prop. software

    Trading ETFs

I've actually had very good fills on SPY going through the NYSE specialist. I agree, never use the AMEX specialist - terrible fills always. SPY is not liquid on ISLD.

    End of Day - Datafeed

The biggest issue with Reuters is that you have to decide what to download up front (at least that's how it works with the MetaStock downloader they provide). They have history back to 1980 on most securities so that's great. QuotesPlus (and probably TC2000) downloads everything every day...

    End of Day - Datafeed

I used QuotesPlus. Downloads all stocks on all exchanges every night. Very fast. Has scanner that allows you to look for stocks with various criteria. Exports to MetaStock. You can designate a directory as "auto-update" and the QP downloader automatically updates all securities in that...

    Should I make the switch?

Trading is difficult. Trading part-time with short term timeframes is even more difficult. I know some of the member of this board successfully trade and work full time, but I would caution against it. Trading is very competitive. You're up against people who do this full time, have better...

    Lewis Borsellino Ebook

Michael, I would have responded via email, but since you don't publish your email address I'll do it here. Your system cannot be coded in metastock. Reasons: Metastock does not support entry and exit on programmable STOPs and LIMITs and does not provide access to the entryprice. Pretty...

    Lewis Borsellino Ebook

I have read it - I'm a tradingmarkets member. It's actually quite good, but doesn't contain a lot of new info. I'd rather wait for his book, which is being released in Mid October. That being said, if the cost is under $50 that's less than slippage on one SP contract...

    Should I make the switch?

tradervic: It is most definitely doable. I suggest that you do the math: if you have a 100k account you will probably have to make 50k to cover living expenses, taxes etc. That's about 4.5% per month not counting compounding. That is certainly doable with a bit of experience. If you have a...

    Elite Trader is not IB

Ultimately, the more traffic we get at Elite the better for Baron and crew. Maybe a solution is to offer sponsored forums for brokers and others who want to access the incredible customer base of this site. That would benefit everyone.

    Elite Trader is not IB

I would just like to encourage IB to support Elite. I suspect many of their better customers frequent this site, and most of the exchanges have been informative IB: how about sponsoring the "Direct Access (Retail)" forum just like FXCM sponsors the futures forum.

Does Metastock Pro RT have level 2 windows?

Actually, just to stress rtstrading's point. MetaStock has excellent eSignal integration. It allows you to dynamically load charts off of eSignal without the need to store anything locally. Level II through eSignal works very well.

    Intraday Backtesting

I'm a long time metastock user. I currently have the latest Metastock 7.2 PRO. It's a terrific tools for playing around with ideas, simple indicators and such. It is NOT recommended for actually realtime intra day trading. Here is a brief list of some of the problems/limitations System...

Does Metastock Pro RT have level 2 windows?

No level II. Just basic charting with indicators and system backtesting. You can't even run systems in realtime without first making the system signals into alerts.
