    Determining Trend

Good posts Jack... very helpful. A few things I would like to ask that a trend has been properly defined: 1. how to spot an entry pt as the trend begins and how to avoid a 'trend' that may be short lived or fail quickly? 2. also, when entering during the middle of the trend. I guess...

    Keeping It Simple

Thanks NihabaAshi for the post. Being a newbie, I appreciate and try to learn from all the knowledge & experience that comes my way. It's very helpful. Like Db, I've noticed that there have been a lot more reverse movements and retracements lately. Even early this morning (thurs) was a...

    Keeping It Simple

Reviewing the last 2 days trades, it's easy to see the reverse plays that came out from the failed opening range breakouts. Being new at this strategy, I did get in both ORBs. For tues, I got in at 972 & ran out with slight 1pt gain after seeing that the ES was in a hurry to go south...

    Keeping It Simple

That's good to know. I dont really know how to thank you enough for all your help Db. Since you've mentioned the 2B reversal in some of your posts, I've been trying to learn to spot them while they are forming (it's a lot easier to spot them when you look back). Based on your experience with...

    Keeping It Simple

Hey Db, the charts are cool. I really appreciate your willingness to share the stuff you've learned over the years, they're very helpful. A question does come to mind, though, when following the trend and using trendlines, what signals a trend continuation (albeit the trendline goes at a...

    Keeping It Simple

Db, While I was looking at the gap this morning, you fade the gap if it is > 1%. I was wondering what happens if for example instead of turning up, the NQs continued down from the low of 964.50 at 9:35. What would be done in this case? I ask because I know that there are strong days when...

    Keeping It Simple

This may be a dumb question, but being new at e-minis I'd like to ask how would you know when to stay out. Like today (tuesday, 3/4), it was a day where the NQs stayed in a very small range. It looked like both NQ & ES were heading south around 9:50am but the NQs stalled at 985 and went back...

    Keeping It Simple

I second that. Db's been really helpful and very considerate in answering my queries (even if they may reach the point of silliness at times). The reason I do get out with 1/2 is that I'm not too good at this yet. So I try to stay more conservative and take whatever I can. I do agree...

    Keeping It Simple

I agree with that mojo, for some reason, at least so far, the +5 has worked well. It's funny because I've been using exactly the same method, using 2 contracts and exit 1 at +5 and trying to get as far as I can with the 2nd using trendlines.

    Keeping It Simple

The 2B looks very interesting. I've mostly been using double tops/bottoms and some candle signals to look at reversals. I'm wondering though, where would the entry of the 2B be? Is it the break of the previous high (for tops) and previous low (for bottoms) or is it better to wait for the...

    Keeping It Simple

Thanks for all your help Db. I hope I'm not being too much of a bother. My questions just come up as I experience different situations that arise. I just wanted to know what you do when you get into a position before 10am on a day when eco news is expected like today. What I did today...

    Keeping It Simple

Hi Db, Hope you don't mind my asking, I was just wondering that in using the system today (Tues, 2/24), what would've been the trade to make. The only one I went with was the break of 1005 after lunch, I kinda felt that the ES was leading the way down but the NQ didnt want to follow in the...

    newbie question

In the NQ and ES, when do you start trading the the next contract date?

    Keeping It Simple

DB, by the way, this may sound silly, but I've been going through some historical charts by hand to see how the NQ & ES behave. Something that popped into mind was if the opening range isnt broken by quite a while, let's day upto 10:45 or 11am. And makes a breakout only then, do you take...

    Keeping It Simple

Hi Db, Good day indeed! Just wanted to ask how/why you exited the 1st trade and what you saw in the reversal (what was the signal to go short). Thanks. On my part, I got in at 965 (opening brkout) and out at 977 simply because it was around the target and the move was straight up, so I...

    IB's futures stops

I just wanted to ask how well does IB's sell/buy stop limit orders and auto trail stop orders work for es and nq orders. Are the prices ok or do you need to be prepared for nasty surprises? thanks.

    Figuring out e-minis

Thanks for the advice. I can always count on ET to provide good info. Thanks Kelly for the details you laid out. That's a good way of managing risk.

    Keeping It Simple

Hi Db, I hope you don't mind my asking how you dealt with Tuesday's trading on the NQs. The reason I ask is I was wondering if the morning trade upwards right after 10am shouldve been taken or not. I had my doubts coz the NQ wanted to go up but the ES was kinda wanting to drift lower, and...

    Figuring out e-minis

I currently trade stocks and am looking to move to e-minis hopefully in about 2-3 months time. So far, I’ve watched the NQ and ES for the past week and have some newbie questions I hope the more experienced traders can help me on. Would it be better to concentrate trading just one or trade...
