    Crisis Fuels Backlash on Trade

This thread rightly belongs in the Economics section. What is wrong with protectionism is that it creates market distortion and inefficiency. A buy American policy is a de facto government subsidy. Is it a good thing to bailout the U.S. car industry? Short term it looks like a good idea but...

Why not just reduce ALL taxes by 50%

Who are the biggest tax payers? They will receive the bulk of the tax cuts. The question then is what will they do with it? Let us assume Exxon will be one of the big beneficiaries. What will it do with its big tax break? Will its actions stimulate the economy? By the way it is by no...

Unforeseen trading problem, other people hate success

An interesting thread. I wonder how many times people here hear this kind of advice from their friends? Isn't the internet beautiful? Still maybe one should question if certain relationships one has with certain people are as strong as you'd want them to be if one feels more comfortable...

    Did Value Investors Survive 1929-1932?

I was looking at a value model and it was outperforming until about the middle of October when it did a swan dive and did even worse than the momentum stocks from that point onwards. Value seems to be steady until it reaches a certain threshold and then it plunges like the rest.

    LCDs vs CRTs and Eyestrain??

I second this suggestion. Use the resolution recommended by the manufacturer. It might take some getting used to the smaller icons but the images and colors on the screen are sharper and deeper and easier for the eyes to focus on. I think this was the main thing I changed that allowed me to...

    LCDs vs CRTs and Eyestrain??

Had some difficulty at first adjusting too but got used to it eventually and will not use a CRT now if I can avoid it because of the radiaton issues. As noted by others try fiddling with the settings and dialling down everything.

Hackers breach credit card system; the breach could set a record

Indeed why is the personal information of customers turned into a commodity which customers have virtually no control over? Makes no sense. Even worse is that the system is such that people are coerced into divulging such information. It's all about business. Ordinary people seem...

Call to Arms - We Must Fight the 0.25% Stock Transaction Tax

    1. Smaller maybe but no joke. As I put it in my analogy a transaction tax on bets made in Vegas would likely turn it back into a desert. 2. Who benefitted first and foremost from all the financial shenanigans of the past couple of decades? Answer: Americans. The house prices of recent...

Call to Arms - We Must Fight the 0.25% Stock Transaction Tax

8.5 trillion that was built on an illusion over the past one or two decades. Hard to see it as theft when it wasn't really there.

    Wall Street's Rigged Casino

Fraud has brought the financial system to its knees? No. Gross incompetence has brought the system to its knees. Hanlon's razor applies: Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.

Anyone getting tired of all this Obama hype?

People like stories of hope especially during tough times. This isn't only a story of hope but one of historical significance. dave74 what events of historical significance that you have lived through are you happy about and proud of? They are rare and worthy of celebration.

Call to Arms - We Must Fight the 0.25% Stock Transaction Tax

Penny wise, pound foolish. Foreigners park their money in US financial institutions to trade in the US. Now if people can find a lower taxed exchange there will be incentive to move. Even Americans will be moving their money abroad. Wealthier than average Americans I might add. So people...

What if Steve Jobs dies? What will happen to Apple?

Haven't used a single Apple product. I've never seen the appeal. I feel as if I'd be dumbing down by buying a product that is promoted mainly on its ease of use and stylishness. :)

The credit card debt contracts are designed to be obscure and not clear. The debtors aren't free of guilt to be sure but I don't see why people should have much sympathy for the creditors.

Not a shame as much as a sham. Truth is though if you aren't capable of paying each monthly balance in FULL you probably shouldn't be using a credit card. But you do have a point. The rules surrounding credit card debt are a travesty. One needs to run a very tight ship not to run afoul...

    Any MQL4 programmers?

For the timing problem not sure the following is an optimal solution but it's an idea that might be useful: if (TimeDay(Time[i] - TimeZone*3600)!=TimeDay(Time[i+1] - TimeZone*3600)) with TimeZone being an external variable determining the offset. You'll probably need to account for...
