    Trouble sleeping :(

Work out. Does amazing things for your sleep. Comment about not eating 3hrs before you go to bed is also good. Only medicate if you are having anxiety attacks. If you are your cortisol levels will be high and then you shouldn't be trading anyway.

    Volatility/Variance Swaps

It has to do with hedging. Variance swaps can be hedged by using an option with a LN(x) payoff rather than a linear one. Basically variance swaps are easy to hedge volatility swaps now thats a different story

    Pfizer + 2.5, %10, in Pre Market

why wouldn't I exercise. For 8c?? I assume because it could open down more than that on Monday? I was checking IB and their cutoff is 16H30! Just thinking some people got off easy on their short calls!

Poor gold shorts - commercials losing it

I would imagine you are right, when the shorts are cleared out, watch the rally fizzle and all the gold bugs get burned

    Monte Carlo Simulation

Go to www.palisade.com and get @Risk it has everything you need, unless you want Levy Flight simulations which means you will need to code them yourself. One other tip always use the latin hyper cube sampling not the monte carlo!

One million dollars work or trade

I have a friend who says he has the following dilemma. He has one million in cash, owns the house some old cars etc. Now he says to me, if the average fund manager can't beat a random portfolio. He may as well pay himself a salary instead of asset management fees. and trade the money himself...

    Opinion on CFD ??

I have often wondered if there are some participants who don't pay the stamp duty but have never been able to figure it out. The LSE does not have market makers like on the NYSE and the entire thing is electronic i.e. no floor.

    Opinion on CFD ??

I assume the CFD provider is hedging themselves in the underlying. So they pay the stamp duty? Or is there a way, like say brokers don't pay the stamp duty for own account trading?

    Non-disclosure contract

IMHO they are very difficult to enforce and so are not worth the paper they are written on. But I suppose its better than nothing

    Predicting randomness

Print this thread out and read only posts from people registered pre 2003. Yes I know that excludes me. Stuff they write is pretty good, most of the rest is hog wash. Makes you think?

    Predicting randomness

Only one type of insider trading is certain; "we are bankrupt". Think of the deficit number, if I knew beforehand it was going to be a record, I would have gone heavily short the dollar and seen my arse

    Predicting randomness

Notice He uses the word uniform. And he's right about the normal distribution. Although some people learn from the painful lesson and survive. Great post thanks

    screwed by IB mistake

Hmmm I have had few oopsies with IB, never get an explanation or even a sorry. I suppose they are worried if they explain or apologies you'll sue them.

    Predicting randomness

I do the same on smaller time scales. In terms of S Wolfram the idea seems to be that if a system is following some simple rules it can generate very complex/random behavior. His breakthrough is that physical systems compute. Traditional science has only studied those systems that are...

    Predicting randomness

From the book, it appears he has not studied the markets. I am making that statement after having skimmed the book. I agree with you about the way you trade I do the same. Not sure that you are predicting, in the sense of this thread. To me prediction is, the price will be 100 at 13H00...

    Predicting randomness

No I don't belive he means perfectly, but near enough to be useful. So for example Newtonian mechanics predicts the motions of the planets pretty well, but not 100% But for our purposes thats good enough. Oddi put it well in another post, I am not saying you can't make money from the...
