timing of events after exercising option early

if it's hard to borrow and not shortable, when is the first opportunity I would have to sell my shares obtained from exercising the call? I'm trying to understand the risk of price movement after my decision to exercise early. This will depend on the broker. Your broker may allow you to sell...

timing of events after exercising option early

The option exercise process doesn't happen intraday. The OCC deadline for exercising is 530pm et. Results are then tabulated, and member firms are notified some time before 1159pm. So you generally won't find out if you were assigned or not until early morning the following day, too late to...

    Option fill price

I see this happen from time to time with my orders. MM's have no interest in selling me at one price, and when I raise my bid, I am filled at a lower price, just as what happened in your case. It may be because of AIM (automated improvement mechanism). Depending on how the order is handled, if...

390-order threshold and removal of professional status

I had this tag some time ago (not in an IB account though) and it is definitely something you don't want. They will look at monthly averages, but the penalty is quarterly. So if I average over 390 option orders per day in January, I would be considered a professional in the second quarter (Apr...

    Deep ITM Covered Calls Question

2-If you hold your position past expiration and it's ITM, the broker will exercise it for you and remove the shares you own (covered call position). If you hold a covered call after expiration (this means you are short the call), and it ends up in the money, your broker can't exercise it for...

    Deep ITM Covered Calls Question

    1) Your chances of being assigned early on a call is very low, except in certain circumstances such as an upcoming dividend or the stock being hard to borrow. If this happened you wouldn't lose your downside protection, you would actually have no downside risk at all, as you would no longer have...

Anyone had a short recalled on them?

You would do combos with far out of the money calls so you wouldn't have this risk.

Anyone had a short recalled on them?

It really depends on how hard to borrow the stock is. If you want to avoid the recall risk, you can just do an option combo, buy put sell call, or buy a very deep put. The short rate will be "written" in the options, but you won't have the risk of being bought in on your short stock.

What does a 25/100 contract size mean?

It means these contracts were adjusted due to a reverse split. They now only deliver 25 shares instead of the standard 100. Here is the OCC memo explaining https://infomemo.theocc.com/infomemos?number=48617

Help! The short leg in my PCS was assigned early.

If it was the November expiration, just exercise your 340 puts. The only "extra" potential cost to you is capital charges for the long stock you held for the day. If you have a later expiration, there will be some extrinsic value in your 340 puts, so you would sell them and sell your stock (if...

    Box spread arbitrage returns

The boxes themselves will trade on a fairly tight market, even though the individual legs are quite wide. I would start with a 1 lot and change the price until filled. You can also watch time and sales and if you see a box trading at what would be the bid, you can try and enter an order at...

when orders are sent from broker to market makers or to the nasdaq what info is sent?

This is not necessarily true, at least with options. Awhile ago I was listed as a "professional customer" for a quarter due to the number of orders I placed. This designation was included with my orders and often MM's would not trade with me at the same price they would with a customer. Yes...
