    Understand TLT

The dividend for TLT has nothing to do with the underlying for TLT. The amount paid out by dividend is just the amount decided upon by the fund manager to return to shareholders on a regular basis. TLT will still move based on the behaviour of longer term treasuries.

why does some stocks not allow after hour trading ?

If it's BVXV you're referring to, I see after hours trades over the last 5 days. Fairly good volume sometimes relative to RTH. This is a thinly traded stock so I wouldn't expect a lot of activity outside of RTH.

Best way to trade two accounts simultaneously

Use an automation program like Alera: https://aleratrading.com/ Get a license for each account with API enabled and send the corresponding orders to each account. You would need to login to each IB account using IB Gateway. The Alera API is straightforward and there are examples of scripts on...

    Trying to understand fees.

How many years ago was this? Fees have come way down. To buy 100 shares of PEP at Interactive Brokers will cost you about $1 in commission. To sell these same shares will also cost you about $1 plus a nominal fee from the SEC (about $0.05). Round trip will be just over $2.

Best time to restart IB Gateway ?

I recommend you set up the gateway to auto restart (go to Configure -> Lock and Exit -> Auto restart). This way you only need to re-login once per week on the weekend. I've been using a restart time of 11:45pm and it has worked fine.

What’s the point of portfolio diversification?

The 60/40 portfolio has performed fine overall. 2022 is an outlier -- it's one of the worst performing on record. In terms of correlations with other markets nothing is guaranteed. To see how specific combinations would have worked you have to do some backtesting. And this will only give you...

    Newbie Stock Question

It looks like the stock return calculator is not accounting for the dividends that were received over the years. If you look at the adjusted price data from Yahoo you'll see that the actual price on 11/3/95 was $80.45 but the adjusted price was $41.18. If you had bought GE back in '95 and...

    Effect of Elections on Market

There's a high likelihood that markets will rally regardless of who gets in. I looked at the historical data for the SPX for all midterm election years since 1930 and if you bought the day after the election and held for about 250 days the average return was 14.6% with 91% of the years positive...

Pot stocks getting high: TLRY CGC SNDL

Pot has been legal in Canada now for a while. It's basically been a non-event. People that were buying and using before continued buying and using, they just didn't have to hide it anymore. Of course there have been new people buying and trying but it really hasn't been that noticeable. As usual...

    tsx venture traders?

Since your original post back at the beginning of 2020 I've been running my TSX/TSXV monthly rotation strategy. It's a combination of TSX-listed and Venture-listed companies that I rotate into / out of once per month. Overall the performance has been decent (2020 was very good, 2021 not so good...

Is there ANYPLACE safe to put your money these days?

There are numerous ways to bet against things (inverse ETFs, futures, options, etc.) but timing is important with these due to decay, expirations, etc. A simple example would be to buy TBT if you think bonds are going to perform poorly.

Reverse Martingale - two winners in a row

The adjusted price includes dividends and splits. To calculate your total return you simply divide the current price by the original adjusted price. For RVT: 11/19/1986: $0.6372 (adjusted price) 5/10/2022: $14.4162 Growth = 22.6x (over 35.5 years) CAGR = 9.2% (compounded annual growth) For...
