dozu888,
Not according to my talk with IB today. I was told they are held in the IB computer and sent to GLobex for execution when the price stop is hit.
To further clarify, I was told that the stop was in IBs system. Normally it receives quotes to compare its stop price with curent market price. When the stop price is hit, the IB computers send it for execution. The IB person (I think it was Matt, but not 100% sure) said that no quote data was...
I had a stop on the NQ futures and it was not activated, even though the contract traded
many times at the appropriate levels. After I noticed this and manually sold out many
points lower, I called IB and after some investigation they said that the stop was in their
system but not receiving...

Does anyone know when the eminis will switch from September to December as the lead contract? Is there a general rule for this switch (like the first Friday of the month, or something like that)?

Let me change your example to this one. Suppose you are a finance lender with $100,000,000 to lend. Would you be better off loaning the funds to 10,000 low credit risk people who can't get credit anywhere else, but where you can charge higher fees, or would you be better off...
"IB has become one of the favourite brokers among the small traders and I don't think that they wish to lose those customers."
In my opinion, IB has established the closest thing to an all electronic brokerage in existance today. I don't think they have sought the small trader, it is just a...
I love the way everyone is threatening IB - "if you don't do this or that I'll take all of my business elsewhere". They know exactly what they want and what risk profile they wish to assume. They have obviously made a risk/reward calculation. If they wanted your business they wouldn't have done...
I have been a money manager for private investors. Not in the hedge fund structure, but in general its not much different. Just be prepared for all of the personal bullshit. Unless you are a very big fund with many layers of people, your investors are going to expect to talk to YOU, and whenever...
IB is very fast in option execution and the price is right. However, keep in mind that they only do simple options. If you want to do a straddle or a strangle, you have to leg into it. The same for rolling your strike up or down. This can cause slippage amd the loss of the full bid/ask spreads.
It used to be that scrollong stock tickers carried every trade. In todays market that is obviously impossible. How do tickers like CNBC's or scrolling ones still at some brokers work. How do they determine which trades to show? Does anyone know?
IB does not have different day trading margin requirements and over night requirements the way some brokers do. They use overnight requirement for everything.
emini stop orders DO NOT work overnight. The overnight spreads can get to several points, so setting off a stop could be costly. I don't know why they don't allow stop limits, which would defend against this problem, but they don't allow any stops at this time.
Hitman - OK no interest income. I take $100,000,000 and trade like a banchee, and at the end of the year I've made $5,000,000. You've taken $100,000 and turned it into $200,000. I made a lot more money than you did. Am I the better trader?
Hitman - If profit was the only determination of a great trader, then if I put $100 million in Treasury bonds and make $5,000,000 doing nothing, then does that mean I am a better trader than you?
