    Moving offshore

In many visits to the islands of the Bahamas, the locals were friendly and welcoming. Their economy relies on tourism, so they have to show a degree of hospitality or people would not return. True that they may look after their own before you, but there is not a feeling of animosity toward...

Where do you set your stop?

A two dollar range is pretty commonplace these days...it's a rather volatile market of late (by of late I mean the past several months). Then you have the really crazy days like Tuesday the 27th of March when CL took off from 63 dollars to just over 68 in a matter of about 5 minutes for...

Why have the price of NYMEX seat leases dropped so much?

You used to pay for the right to scalp the public for 5 or 10 cents...but with the bid/offer on the screen typically being just a penny most of the time, and with 70%+ of the volume done on Globex, it is the pit that keys off the screen and the opportunity to scalp the public all day long has...

Any QM Traders Here ? (mini-CL)

You might be better off trading the full size CL contract as it is more liquid and the spread is typically one penny instead of the minimum 2.5 cents on QM, but if 500 bbls. is your risk tolerance the QM should work fine too.

Where to get historical charts of energy futures?

Platts will sell them to you...if you can't find a free source on Google. Try www.eia.doe.gov, you might find something there. If not try the 'contact us' link and contact an oil expert--they should be able to help.

What happened to CL just now

That is how they used to move: inversely. The more recent moves in unison were due to fears of a slowdown in the economy which would curb demand, but Middle East conflict fears are more likely to cause oil to spike due to supply fears while spooking investors and causing jitters in the equity...

What happened to CL just now

Oh it happened...CL went from 63 bucks to 68.09 in fewer than 10 minutes, which is the biggest move I have ever seen, and in talking to those who have worked in the industry for 20+ years, it is the biggest move they have seen in such little time and on such light volume without any explicable...

    Spark Spread

Just stumbled across this and since no one else has responded I will take a crack at it. I do not trade the spark spread, but know of it and believe that any long/short combination of gas to power, coal to power, or heating oil to power would be a spark spread. I don't know if there is a...

    QM volume

Hey BrentFutures, I noted your name and have had a question of late that relates directly to it. Specifically, do you know why the WTI/Brent spread has blown out to over three bucks recently? In the past they have been close to parity, and as recently as a year or two ago WTI traded at a...

CL traded thru sell limit on 3/6 ?

MY software will not accept GTC orders for NYMEX on Globex either. The company says they aren't accepted, so if you can put them you're lucky (I have to re-enter each time, and it won't take the orders until just before 6:00 PM)...

CL traded thru sell limit on 3/6 ?

Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise with today's run up post # release... In any case, agreed that the screen is the place to trade, volume is 3X, the spread is a penny as opposed to 5 or 10 cents, and it moves more quickly (the pit keys off of the screen now as opposed to vice versa). I...

    Natty Gas

The EIA came out yesterday and increased their price targets for natty at Henry Hub. Their forecast for Q1 went from 6.97 to 7.47, and for the calendar year of '07 it went from 7.10 to 7.58. The cold weather we are getting here in the east seems to be the cause for this latest run up from 7.10...

crude to join in on crash next week

Nice rhyming....very clever. But in the attachment the values on the y-axis seem to be off by a few bucks--shows the recent rally to just shy of 65 bucks and the selloff in Jan to over 52.50...both of which are higher than actuals. Just fyi for those looking at the chart.

    Energy Market Preview

Actually I'm doing the trial and I like it...I agree with you that they tend to report what has happened and don't offer opinions on where things are going, but I do like the content so far. They have me on FX/Interest Rate/Futures updates and I also get "play by play" in the S&P futures pit at...

    A crude look at Crude

Cramer is an idiot who appeals to low level investors without real market knowledge. The experts all think he's an idiot and discount what he says (even his fellow CNBC anchors!). He's right a lot, but he's also wrong a lot--tends to happen when you constantly put yourself out on a limb...

    Some general advice needed

Hey Buddy....no, I don't think that you have come to the wrong place at all. BUT, you have decided to delve into this market in a time of extroardinary changes. Volume has gone through the roof recently since the CL contract has gone electronic and gained extensive popularity, so a lot of the...

    A crude look at Crude

If you understood how complex and immense the futures markets are you would realize how absurd your conspiracy theories seem to people who actually understand how things work. It's just not possible for the government or the oil companies to control prices in the long run. They can do and say...
