Is it possible to execute an order during the weekend

Arca and Island end at 8PM. Arca also has a cross at 8:01.

    IBKR green today

No, as that discussion was a slip so he stopped himself. I'd assume that with 8+B in customer equity and a targetted team going after 10 accounts, they'd have to be sizeable. (Well, I'd hope!) TP also explained why he bought the Altana claim. Not sure I completely buy the explanation but...

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

For one app, like just TWS, not much of a difference. I don't think mult screens make much of a diff w/DirectX nowadays either.... but with multiple apps... plus a CNBC window... it's a definite improvement over the previous dual. Also nowadays quads are the same price points as duals with...

How to improve Java app efficiencies?

Multicore CPUs help a LOT bec java trading apps end up with lots of threads. So I actually went for a quad core.... As far as I know, only graphics/video and Java trading apps eat up cores for lunch! If not, a dual core will suite most users just fine.

    IBKR green today

My favorite stat (though depressing as I clearly drag down the average): ~1000 accounts signed up for portfolio margining, and I think I heard approx 150MM from the CFO but TP backed off and said over 100MM under PM. THe one bit of Q3 data leaked.... 2 hedge funds signed up for Prime...

IB: USD base currency want to trade DAX/HSI

You can trade contracts in any currency if you have margin feature, but if you end up with a negative balance in that currency, you will incur interest charges. So you need to manage your cash balances across currencies by buying/selling currencies as needed. You probably want to smooth out...

IB: Charts don`t work with Canadian stocks !

Confirmed that Toronto charts work intraday with TSE set as destination instead of SMART for me..... thx again.

IB: Charts don`t work with Canadian stocks !

I'll have to test that when the TSX opens. But using SMART yesterday after the close, I got a permission error. Using TSE gives me something. If I do 1 day, it says Trading .... has ended at 07/25/07 16:00.... so I suspect it will work. If it doesn't work, I will post a follow up...

Yes, I got a chart for yesterday (did a 2 day time period) for a TSX issue.

shocking (NOT) IB down AGAIN @ night. help finding an alternative PLEASE...

Reading this thread gave me a different idea. Can 2 users for the same account be on 2 separate servers? If so, then I may want to switch one of my user ids over to a different server to avoid a single failure point.

IB: Charts don`t work with Canadian stocks !

Hmm -- what data subs do you have? I have TSX level 1 and have never gotten charts to work for TSX stocks. It always says No market data permissions for BEST STK, which seems erroneous but nevertheless that's what it says.

Why IB doesnt offer an option to this highly tax efficient commision structure?

Well the debit interest costs are already effectively netted against interest income..... (bec either you're positive or negative on cash). Commissions/ECN fees are added to the cost basis, subtracted from the proceeds. This just leaves wire fees, cancel/modify fees and market data fees...

    IB and tax advantaged distributions

I agree that the problem is eminently solvable as others have solved it, and it probably isn't that much cost either for the short crowd can't be choosers sometimes. Just pointing out that IB has not yet chosen to solve the problem and that's a legit risk. I don't know about most people, but...

    IB and tax advantaged distributions

Some of my other brokers would rather screw the borrower and call in the shares on the record date. For many nonprofit institutionals, this is a non-issue and is the first source of shares to borrow. Others (including one payment-for-order-flow broker I use) will give you something -- I've...

    IB and tax advantaged distributions

Credit where credit is due: Though cust svc responded saying that any margin account, even if not in debit at the time, can have any security loaned out, IB reversed my PIL and credited a regular dividend. While I appreciate the change, in the absence of a clearly stated policy on how to...

IB EFP. what IB doesn't tell you about.

To be technically correct: Bec of the increase in cash required in the interim if the underlying stock rises (we can debate who's precisely right on why that's the case, but I think there's now consensus it can happen even with not too great moves.... or at least that's how I read...

IB EFP. what IB doesn't tell you about.

jimrockford -- Thx -- actually seeing the discussion again, slightly reworded, helped me greatly. You are right -- even a small increase can eats into cash (while a large increase is needed to exhaust margin). I missed that initially. But I think you have the legs reversed.... i.e...
