    Zen, Yoga, Meditation and Trading

The best book about Zen meditation I could find is called Zen-Training, written by Katsuki Sekida. It is quite a practical guide and is a very profound introduction for westerners, even so written by a Japanese born in 1893, who was a teacher of English.

    Oanda Spreads

There is no free lunch. So, it is better to pay commission and get better spreads. Anyway, it makes really no sense to use a "commission free" fx broker, because even if the spread is just one pip more you have to pay much more than eg. with IB (supposed you handle at least 50 k$ units).

    Stops

Good point! Regarding my trading it depends on the timeframe. For fast scalps (1 to 30 minutes in my case) the stop stays just in place, but sometimes the trade will be scratched. If I am on a longer timeframe I adjust the stop after I have seen new pivot points. But my rule is to always put a...

    5min/1h TrendFollowing on ESTX50, SMI, & GBL

Mea culpa, sorry, man, but that's the bullet you have to bite if you open a journal:D By the way, I am a know-nothing, I just make some bets with a nice risk/reward structure (mostly). Anyway, you do very well. How long have you been trading?

    5min/1h TrendFollowing on ESTX50, SMI, & GBL

I bet some more it will. Long but with a tight stop loss (as always). It is not moving, waiting for some direction from the states. Rising rates could be disturbing, but it is holding well. Long covering in GBL could be over :)

    What to tell family/friends?

Agreed, for most people a bull market is the easy way and they get hyped up for a good fall. Yet, I suppose a lot here are traders who are on the long and on the short side, often changing direction intraday. And all they need is enough volatility or better some nice trends depending on their...

The Effects of Trading Psychology Outside of Trading

There is a thin book written by Ruth B. Roosevelt called "12 Habitudes of Highly Successful Traders". Habitude #8 is Abundance Consciousness: Scarcity is at the root of trading problems. For some people there is just one pie (zero-sum-game), for others there is plenty for all. Trading changed me...

Ramblings on emotions and trading ...

That ist the way most traders start. And quite a lot remain in this phase, loose their equity, and some start again and learn it the hard way. You need emotions to strive for becoming a profitable player in this game. You have to love it in order to get under the surface. For me trading is like...

Ramblings on emotions and trading ...

Dr. Kiev may be a great psychiatrist but his books are not worth reading, full of platitudes and boring examples. Try Mark Douglas. Instead of Dr. Kiev he has been a trader.

    What to tell family/friends?

Completely agreed: Most people think it is a fast and easy way to make a lot of money. But they have no real passion, no persistency and no discipline. They can not sit in front of the screens for hours and waiting for the right set-up, they can not enjoy it. Trading resembles hunting or...

    Stops

It means when my order gets filled a stop loss order and a limit order (exit) will be placed automatically in the market. Stop and limit order are linked, so if one gets hit the other will be canceled.

    Stops

Let's differentiate a bit. It always depends on the market and the volume you are pushing. If the market is thin and/or you play big then mental stops are the best if you or someone else is watching closely. Otherwise I prefer to leave the stops in the market because it cuts any second guessing...
