profiting from short term dips in stocks ... using options

I have a dip buying trading system for stocks with a 90% win rate, but the 10% can be really bad losses (40-50%). To minimize the risk of those types of meltdowns I figured buying deep in the money calls would be perfect, as you limit your risk but also gain about the same as you do from stocks...

    Best futures broker

Maybe the best option is to diversify your brokerage holdings? If you have 1/3 of your money at three separate brokers the odds of all three going belly up are very small (not that I'd want to lose 1/3 of my money, but I'd prefer that to 3/3!!!). You can get to RJ O-Brien via Tradestation...

Is StrategyRunner only one ATS platform-server serverside?

It seems like setting up a server hosting business for traders would be a good business. The average trader really just needs a workstation, not a fullblown server..... Anyone want to start a business renting out workstations? Even 3 GHZ Dell's with hyperthreading and 512 MB of RAM can be...

No/Low risk, low return option strategies?

    T1 line - How Much?

I have both a DSL modem and a cable modem which I use to (help) prevent an ISP outage from killing my trading system. I tried a dual WAN router -- BAD idea. It's still a single point of failure -- if the router dies your connectivity dies too. Instead I now have two separate routers one...

    Optimizing a Trading System

I don't think that's necessarily true, but they may need to be adapted to changing markets. For example electronic trading is a huge change to a market. Program trading is another. Increased or decreased volatility is a third.... I run a system based off the king keltner system from the...

Hedging-- what's the most efficient way to do it?

Usually a long position will last 3-5 days so I bought Nov 2005 36 puts since I could get them for 5 cents a pop. I was thinking of potentially putting on a more complex option spread with futures options as a hedge instead but I need to do more research on it (like re-read the Larry...

Hedging-- what's the most efficient way to do it?

On QQQQ generally $3 out of the money. Right now they're at 36. The reason I'm not selling options is that I want to limit my risk -- I don't want my hedge to end up losing a lot of money on a bin ladin capture.....

Hedging-- what's the most efficient way to do it?

I trade an automated futures system that holds overnight positions about 40% of the time. I'm not too worried about an event triggering an overnight move up (even a bin ladin capture would be good for maybe 2-4%) but I am worried about a 9/11 (or worse) type of terrorist attack triggering a...

    Need good backtesting software

You could try wealthlab -- you can sign up free for their website (www.wealth-lab.com) and write scripts there as well as test them on daily data. For more money you can buy tradestation or something else like amibroker. SSB

IB Advisor Friends & Family account

Yup, there's no escaping the tax man. Of course IRAs are exempt, and if you trade futures those are just reported as a net profit/loss, you don't need to list individual trades. SSB

    idiotic question about options MM

If you do it through different brokers it may not be so easy to track. Not that I'm recommending you do it. I did it once to close a trade in my IRA (using thinly traded ETFs) but it's not something you can get away with easily....nor should you try sooner or later you'd get caught and end up...

    IB Lowers Futures Commissions

Is there any way IB could "cluster" your servers so that when you cycle one another one is still there? There must be ways to do this so that even when some of them are down others are still up. Through a load balancer or something? SSB

    Using VB.NET with API example

The VB.net datagrid is generally used for binding to a dataset, but in .net anything can be databound if you write the binding code. Try putting your data into a dataset and then binding that to the grid. Using the built-in binding should be significantly faster than anything you or I can...

Need some help with Automated Trading

IB has a demo account: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/software/demo.php I used MBTrading (not with the API) before and they're like a toy compared with IB. They are not 24 hours, they close from 8 PM to 8 AM (IB does have overnight downtime but it's only at most 30 minutes)...
