Jim Rogers Predicts the Implosion of "Lots" of Hedge Funds: Traders Beware

Last year it was a record too. The year before it was a record too, etc. etc. Next year it will be another new record?

Jim Rogers Predicts the Implosion of "Lots" of Hedge Funds: Traders Beware

No way to predict. Everyone will suffer, nobody will benefit. Only who will suffer more or less.

Jim Rogers Predicts the Implosion of "Lots" of Hedge Funds: Traders Beware

This is nothing new and is indicative of the increasingly poor attitude toward risk that is present in the market. Everyone is guilty, retail investors, institutional investors and hedge funds. It is a product of a very competitive system awash with cash. It is obvious in stock valuations...

Jim Rogers Predicts the Implosion of "Lots" of Hedge Funds: Traders Beware

There will be huge blow-ups when the equity market feels stress. The hedge fund industry is riding the long equity trade both explicitly and implicitely. Until then, there will be some blow-ups but not systemically and in isolated cases. Hedge Fund managers are supposed to swing the bat...

    China market crash

Metals and commodities will selloff sharply as big demand is coming out of China. US equities would go down but not that much. Not much impact on treasuries. Really depends how the selloff occurs, if it occurs.

    Hedge Fund Material?

Audited? Verifiable? The answer is yes if it is true. However, if it's just a leveraged long equity strategy, while somewhat marketable, it is not of that much interest.

    Anybody own a house?

That's a valid point, bottom line, it still comes down to counting on future appreciation of house prices. If one is sure that houses will continue to appreciate at past rates, or near past rates, home ownership is a reasonable proposition.

    Anybody own a house?

Thanks for your reply. A few points, however: "*I pay 4.25% instead of 6.5% mortgage. So cost is 22758 instead of 34807 or 1896 per month." Unfortunately, the past is the past, a 4.25% mortgage is not relevant in todays world and should not be utilized in looking at the value of renting...

    Anybody own a house?

Good point regarding the tax on the interest earned. Now it is $4300 per month in carrying cost to break even vs. $3550 in rent. Same principal applies, it just doesn't make sense to own unless you are confident of sharply rising real estate prices (which has occurred recently). The biggest...

    Anybody own a house?

In many cases, renting is a better option. I have a friend in this situation, consider this case: He lives in a condo near NYC that would cost $850,000 to purchase. Instead, he rents it for $3550. Maintenance and taxes are a combined $1400 per month. Here is how I see his situation...

the best definition of trading edge on entire ET

Edge=advantage, simple. If 'edge' is robust enough, and if 'edge' allows you to overcome trading friction, edge=positive expectancy. Must have positive expectancy (another poster referred as probability) to have profitable/winning strategy. Research my other threads to find examples of "edges"...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

There are more players with a "short" book which buffers the downside as the market drops. Long/Short hedge funds are largely responsible vs. the past when everyone was only long and downdrafts had a larger cascading effect of triggering stops and more stops with no support from any short...
