I'm not overtrading. You have to look at correlated positions. Read Market Wizards Marcus and Kovner section. If you go long Euro and Swiss Franc to the Dollar each at 3x your capital, then that's pretty much the same trade, then at 6x your capital that can be considered overtrading...

    Support and resistance Question...

Old timers know this, but for newbies... break in support is future resistance, and upside breakout area is future support. Watch out if breakout fails, i.e. comes back below breakout area or goes above breakdown area.

    Commodities after Final Notice Day

Oops, I feel like an idiot. It's First, not Final, Notice Day, and Lean Hogs is cash settled, so this doesn't apply.

    Commodities after Final Notice Day

I hate the rule that you have to exit trades, such as longs, after FND. There are numerous situations where the tight supply/demand situation causes the most nearby to explode while the furthers just kinda sit there. Most recent example is rise is May vs. Jun Lean Hogs. I'm not long, but just to...

Robert Prechter Says Bear Mkt Alive And Well

A degree is perhaps marginally helpful in trading. In money management it can help a lot more. (Trout/Harvard, Soros/London School Economics, Rainwater/Stanford, Lampert/Yale).

    Trading Futures vs. Trading Stocks

As a rule of thumb, futures traders need to control their risk better because the leverage factor can cause a faster wipeout than in stocks.

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

A Blackjack analogy might be better because there's no bluffing involved. In trading you don't directly see your opponent across the table.

    Larry Williams

The change in style was due to the larger amount of funds causing him to lengthen his normal time horizons. It would seem that this occured because the time frame he's trading... a few minutes of scalping... cannot handle the volume of his funds without excessive slippage.

I usually don't add to a trade. If you add to a winner, you're pyramiding, which is risky. If you add to a loser, you're averaging a loser, which is also risky. I might scale in some contracts. Depends. Cut loss short on Yen long last Friday on unusual weakness. That was the right move...

Has Warren Buffet sold his silver position?

WEB bought in 97' around $4.50 and took delivery. He has some storage costs. To him an investment, but probably more a hedge against financial assets/securities. WEB doesn't use a "stop loss" because he is a genius of high calibre that knows the value of what he's buying. Stop loss is for...

    1st_samurai's trading thoughts

End of week review: Seems that I tend to overleverage on bad trades, such as short lean hogs and long bond/note. I know that money management is key, but keeping the discipline is hard when an extra position is just a mouse click away. I think I need to think of the devastation that can...
