    Last Half Hour

What surprised me wasn't the reversal as I was in for that play -- it was the intensity of it on a Friday afternoon.

Other than a big buy program coming in was there any news to explain this nice little run into the close -- made my day frankly.

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

My take is that it is a comment about position sizing. I'd run with a smaller size for awhile and see if the future does indeed look like the past as far as Frosty's system is concerned. I'd also add that the last few months have been somewhat atypical. We've seen a huge rally. That's got to...

Frosty's auto-trading bot goes live with REAL money

It can vary but my experience has been that pre-holiday periods are better spent watching paint peel than system trading.

Starts of new U.S. homes plunged 14.6% in October

That's not a recession -- that's more like a depression. A 700 SPX would wipe out everyone's retirement planning. If you added in a substantial shot of negative housing equity we'd be looking at dark times indeed. Let's hope not.

Starts of new U.S. homes plunged 14.6% in October

I agree. And up here we saw a bunch of properties for investment dumped. Prices came down 10% very fast and then flattened. That's where we are today. I'd expect we see another 10% next summer barring some major change in the market fundamentals -- interest rates, layoffs, etc... The thing is...

Starts of new U.S. homes plunged 14.6% in October

I understand what you are saying. But I think that's just speculative at this time. Like you, I thought we'd see a bunch of selling and dramatically lower prices in the bubble areas -- we just disagreed about timing. When I didn't see it I looked at the cost of a mortgage etc and...

Starts of new U.S. homes plunged 14.6% in October

As someone "in the market" I'd like to believe that's correct. What I see is that people who can't get their price are taking their homes off the market. In the case of investment properties they are renting them out over the winter and waiting to see what next Spring/Summer brings. My guess...

Volumes are definitely down but prices are still "strong" in Northern California.

Risk of Catastrophic move in the eminis?

Insurance is not cheap. I usually see it around 1-2% month for NTM options at the time you initiate the trade. A 12-24% cost to trade safely is not insignificant. Spreading can help the cost side but you pay up in the event your insurance "pays off" I've never been able to make the numbers...

Is it Better to have securities laws as civil vs criminal offenses?

Sorry, It's not an either or story. We can find room for both... I don't see why people always want to go soft for the biggest crooks on the planet. But it happens over and over again.

Is it Better to have securities laws as civil vs criminal offenses?

It's certainly worth it to prevent tens of thousands of people's retirements and billions of dollars of equity vaporizing every time this cycle reoccurs. Housing a couple of thousand crooks with Bubba is well worth it. I'd let the marijuana people out if you want to make it cost neutral. :)

Is it Better to have securities laws as civil vs criminal offenses?

If the criminal penalties are high enough say 20 years or so without parole and enforceability is strong enough there will be a big drop in white collar crime. No doubt in my mind.

Is it Better to have securities laws as civil vs criminal offenses?

Criminal...and civil. There's nothing like solid jail time in addition to civil penalties to make white collar criminals think twice..
