Book Review : "A Mathematician Plays the Stock Market"

Apparently you don't know how to speed read. 200 pgs. is nothing to do in one sitting-- it usually takes an hour and a half to two hrs. at most. I do it at BN from time to time. Its a great way to save money.

    Strange email from IB

This is absolutely hilarious. I e-mailed them two days ago and have not gotten a return e-mail yet, and your saying that you got one from them and it says nothing. Maybe it was the reply to my e-mail; with no information in it, it sounds exactly what they would send to me.

    The Dow since 1915

neutino, maybe you should re-read your own subscript.

    I'm 75% short, $100K

First of all, I would not risk 75% on anything at one time short or long. Secondly, if you look closely at the dow chart you can see that it is positioned in break-out mode. If it tops 10,722, there is no overhead resistance until the 11,000 area. If that happens, it will definitely pull the...

    The Dow since 1915

I agree. The response to Harry's thread, so far, could be viewed as a contraian indicator; which, within itself gives validity to harry's point.

    The Dow since 1915

harry, that is interesting. I agree that it looks like a bubble. It reminds me of all the charts I looked at, at the end of '99 and beginning of 2000. From what I see, a retracement should find support around the 4000 level. However, in a more macro view, it looks like it is at the...

Frequently not getting fills with IB

Why don't you use smart order routing? I do, and I've never had a problem getting filled. On several occasions I've even got price improvement. It just works alot easier that way for me.

Come on IB, improve your Level II

I do not think it is unreasonable to ask IB to offer a level II feed that includes integrated ecn's. As previously mentioned by AAA , level II is worthless if you can't see the ecn's along with the mm's. I recently subscribed to IB's level II and it is priced at $20 per month. I found it...

Anyone here use IB Level II with Quotetracker?

I tried IB's level II and found it to be totally useless. They don't have integrated ECN's in the level II boxes; they only show MM's. I'm not bashing IB, but they are way behind the curve in a major way with the tools they supply their traders. Also, when I tried it, it kept freezing up...

investing in the real estate market

From what I've seen, brokers are doing better than their clients.

investing in the real estate market

The RE market is extremely tuff to invest in now. I just recently bought a shopping center, but I spent two years looking for it. The problem is the CAP rates are so low; especially with net leases. When investors came out of the stock market, many of them went into RE; that drove up the...

    IB / Quotetracker questions

TraderBob, I use QT and IB everyday. I have tried it both ways, but I have ended up using QT for my data and placing all my orders directly through IB. QT has a better order entry setup, but you can't attach trailing stops or auto stops to the order as you can through IB. Another thing...

    Cheapest Charting Service

Thanks, marketsurfer. It looks like they've got what I've been looking for. According to their edat features, they show the depth for each ecn book in level II. I don't know how I over looked them.

    Cheapest Charting Service

Along with bobcathy1's question, I 've got an additional question for this thread: Does anybody know of a provider that offers level II as a standalone that shows integrated ecn's? Thanks

What would be considered a "world class return" in todays market?

If you're a "world class" trader you know the answer; if not, I don't see how it's relevant.

    Anything better than Stochastics???

A lot was said about indicators in another thread: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16370. As always, you have to sort among the information and weed out the idiots. Also, you might want to look at the TICK; it gives a good perspective of the overbought or oversold...

    Level II

I am looking for a stand alone level II provider that shows integrated ecn's along with MM's. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Knowing when not to trade.

I personally think that everyday is a good day to trade. You might have to look harder, set your stops tighter, and trade with smaller size, but if you look hard enough, I think you can always find something to trade.
